What is Miles & More?
Miles & More is the loyalty program of the Lufthansa Group, encompassing airlines such as Lufthansa, SWISS, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, and many other partners. Established in 1993, it has grown to become Europe's largest frequent flyer program, offering members opportunities to earn and redeem miles across a vast network. Members can use accumulated miles for flight awards, upgrades, hotel stays, car rentals, and various other services. The program features multiple membership tiers, including Frequent Traveller, Senator, and HON Circle Member, each providing enhanced benefits like priority services, lounge access, and increased mileage accrual rates.
What's new with Miles & More in 2026?
- Dynamic Award Pricing Now Live: From June 3, 2025, Miles & More uses dynamic pricing for Lufthansa, SWISS, Austrian Airlines, and Lufthansa CityLine flights. Miles required now vary based on ticket price, cabin, route, and demand. Off-peak bookings may cost fewer miles; peak dates will cost more.
- Mileage Bargains Discontinued: The fixed "Mileage Bargains" discounted award program ended with the shift to dynamic pricing. Deals may still appear but are no longer predictably scheduled.
- Updated Partner Award Chart: For Star Alliance and other partner airlines, the revised fixed award chart is in effect since June 3, 2025 — the first update since 2019. See the table below for current rates.
- Expanded Fare Options: Award bookings now offer Light, Classic, and Flex fare options (European flights) or Light, Basic, Basic Plus, and Flex (intercontinental), each with different baggage and rebooking rules.
- ITA Airways Partnership: From February 3, 2025, ITA Airways is a Miles & More partner — members can earn and redeem miles on ITA flights within Italy and internationally.
How many miles & More Miles for a flight?
With the transition to dynamic award pricing on June 3, 2025, the number of miles required for flights operated by Lufthansa, SWISS, Austrian Airlines, and Lufthansa CityLine will vary based on factors such as ticket price, travel class, route, booking time, and demand. This means that mileage requirements for these airlines will no longer adhere to a fixed chart and can fluctuate accordingly.
For flights operated by Star Alliance and other partner airlines, a revised fixed award chart will be implemented on the same date. The updated chart reflects adjustments to mileage requirements, with some routes experiencing reductions, particularly in Economy Class, and others seeing increases, especially in premium cabins.
To provide a general idea of the mileage requirements under the new fixed award chart for partner airlines, here are some examples:
| Route | Cabin Class | Current Miles Required (Round-Trip) | Miles Required from June 3, 2025 (Round-Trip) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Europe to North America | Economy | 60,000 | 50,000 |
| Europe to North America | Premium Economy | 80,000 | 85,000 |
| Europe to North America | Business | 112,000 | 125,000 |
| Europe to North America | First | 182,000 | 215,000 |
| Europe to South East Asia | Economy | 80,000 | 90,000 |
| Europe to South East Asia | Business | 142,000 | 170,000 |
| Europe to South East Asia | First | 210,000 | 240,000 |
Note: The above examples are based on the updated award chart for partner airlines effective June 3, 2025. Actual mileage requirements may vary depending on specific routes and airlines. For the most accurate and up-to-date information, please refer to the official Miles & More award chart.
To maximize the value of your miles under the new system, consider booking during off-peak periods, remaining flexible with travel dates, and utilizing tools like AwardFares to monitor real-time availability and set up alerts for your desired routes.
How much are Miles & More miles worth?
The value of Miles & More miles can vary depending on how they are used. In general, a Miles & More mile is estimated to be worth approximately 0.8 to 1.2 euro cents per mile when used on flights in premium cabins or during special promotions.
Here are some indicative examples:
Economy Class Redemption: Typically offers a value close to 0.8 euro cents per mile, especially on routes with low cash prices.
Business Class or First Class Redemption: Can exceed 1.2 euro cents per mile, especially on long-haul flights with high fares.
Upgrades: Can also offer good value, particularly when applied to mid-fare or flexible fare tickets.
Other uses: Miles can also be redeemed for hotels, car rentals, and products in the award catalog, although these redemptions typically have a much lower value (sometimes less than 0.5 euro cents per mile), so using them this way is not recommended if you're looking to maximize their value.
To maximize your miles, it's best to redeem them for mileage-earning flights on long-haul routes, especially in business or first class, and take advantage of tools like AwardFares to find real-time availability and compare the value of each redemption.
