Information about ITA Airways
ITA Airways (AZ), an Italian flag carrier, promises a high-quality travel experience combined with strategic alliances and a robust frequent flyer program, changing in 2025.
In January 2025, ITA Airways marked a significant milestone by finalizing a deal with Lufthansa Group (Germany), wherein Lufthansa acquired a 41% stake in the Italian carrier for €325 million. This partnership will strengthen both the Italian and European aviation markets.
Frequent flyers will most likely be migrated from the Volare loyalty program into Miles & More, as the airline is set to leave SkyTeam and join Star Alliance at some point of 2025. Current Volare members enjoy various perks, such as priority boarding, additional baggage allowances, and access to exclusive lounges, enhancing the overall travel experience.
ITA Airways operates major hubs at Rome Fiumicino (FCO) and Milan Linate (LIN), ensuring convenient connections to key destinations within Italy and across Europe. Popular routes include domestic flights to major Italian cities like Naples, Venice, and Florence, as well as international routes to sought-after destinations such as New York, Tokyo, and Buenos Aires.
Additionally, ITA Airways resumed direct flights to Tripoli, Libya, in January 2025, becoming the first major Western European airline to do so in a decade. This move aims to bolster commercial and cultural ties between Italy and Libya, reflecting improved security conditions in the region.
