SAS announced two new codeshares with SkyTeam partners: Aerolíneas Argentinas and Garuda Indonesia. One brings Argentina and Patagonia closer. The other brings Bali and the rest of Indonesia.

A codeshare lets two airlines put their own code on each other’s flights, so a trip across both can be sold as one ticket. You could already book both airlines with EuroBonus points before this. What is new is that their flights can now share a single ticket with your SAS flights. Your bags go all the way through, and if you miss a connection, the airline rebooks you.

This post covers both codeshares. For each one, we look at what it gives you, what you can book with points, and how to find the seats on AwardFares.

Key Takeaways

  • Two new codeshares. Aerolíneas Argentinas brings Argentina and Patagonia closer. Garuda Indonesia brings Bali and Jakarta.
  • This is not new award access. You could already book both airlines with EuroBonus points. The new part is one ticket, checked bags, and help if you miss a connection.
  • Argentina on points. Flights inside Argentina, including Patagonia, cost 22,500 points one-way in Economy. Economy to Madrid or Rome is 54,000.
  • Bali on points. Garuda flights inside Asia cost about 15,000 points one-way in Economy. Do not book Vietnam Airlines, China Airlines, or Air Europa for the same trip: they cost double the points.
  • One cabin to skip for now. Aerolíneas’ new Economy Plus seat cannot be booked with points yet. Use Economy or Business.
  • Find both on AwardFares. Search with SAS EuroBonus selected, and set an alert if your date is not open yet.

Aerolíneas Argentinas: Argentina and Patagonia on Points

The Aerolíneas Codeshare

SAS now puts its SK code on Aerolíneas flights from Buenos Aires (EZE) to Madrid (MAD) and Rome (FCO). Aerolíneas puts its AR code on SAS flights between those two cities and Copenhagen (CPH), Stockholm (STO), and Oslo (OSL). So you change planes in Madrid or Rome, and the whole trip is one ticket. SAS pointed out how far the network now reaches: you can fly from Ushuaia, the world’s southernmost airport, to Longyearbyen in the Arctic, on one booking. The codeshare is planned for the third quarter of 2026, once regulators approve it.

The New Economy Plus Cabin (Cash Only for Now)

Aerolíneas also launched a new cabin called Economy Plus. It starts on November 1, 2026, on the Airbus A330-200, on five routes: Madrid, Rome, Miami, Cancún, and Punta Cana. It is an economy seat in the first few rows, with more legroom, priority boarding, an amenity kit, better food, and a small discount on lounge access. Cash prices run from about $1,180 round-trip to the Caribbean up to about $2,500 to Madrid.

The Points Catch

You cannot book Economy Plus with points yet. SAS has only turned on online premium economy awards for SAS, Virgin Atlantic, and Delta so far. Aerolíneas is not on that list, and it does not start selling Economy Plus until November 1, 2026. We have not seen it as an award, and we have not been able to confirm it by phone. For now, pay cash if you want this seat, or use your points for Economy or Business. We will update this post if that changes.

What You Can Book with Points

Aerolíneas has good award prices for EuroBonus members. The Economy prices did not go up in the December 2025 devaluation, when SAS raised some award prices.

Route (one-way, Economy) EuroBonus points
Inside Argentina (Patagonia: Ushuaia, El Calafate, Bariloche) 22,500
Inside South America (Brazil, Chile, Colombia, and more) 22,500
To Miami or Cancún 30,000
To Madrid or Rome 54,000

The best value is Patagonia for 22,500 points. Every flight inside Argentina is the same flat price, so Buenos Aires to Ushuaia, El Calafate, or Bariloche costs the same as a short flight. Cash prices for those routes are high in the December to March summer, so this saves a lot.

Business Class costs more, and it went up in the December 2025 devaluation. Partner awards are priced as round-trips, and a one-way is 60% of that price. After the change, Europe to South America in Business is about 190,000 points round-trip, which is about 114,000 one-way (it used to be 99,000). Buenos Aires to Miami is about 60,000 one-way. These numbers come from the award chart, not a live search, and Business seats are few, so check the real price on AwardFares before you book.

Two notes on cost:

  • Taxes are low. A recent round-trip Buenos Aires to Madrid had about 1,700 SEK in taxes and fees, around 850 SEK each way. There are some surcharges out of Argentina, but they are small.
  • The SAS Amex 2-for-1 voucher works here. On a round-trip Business award for two people, it cuts the points in half. We show a real example in our Aerolíneas A330-200 trip report.

Earning on Aerolíneas

You also earn EuroBonus points when you fly Aerolíneas: 150% on Business (booking classes J and C), 125% on the premium economy classes (D, I, W, S), and 100% on Economy (Y, B). See our guide to earning EuroBonus points on Aerolíneas.

One Booking Step to Know

This surprises a lot of people. You can find and start an Aerolíneas award online through SAS, but the SAS booking code often does not work in Aerolíneas’ own system. So you may not be able to pick seats or change the trip on the Aerolíneas website.

The fix is simple. Call Aerolíneas Argentinas, give them your e-ticket number, and ask for their own booking code. With that code, you can choose seats and manage the trip. It is a short call, but if you do not know to make it, the booking can feel broken.

Garuda Indonesia: Bali and Jakarta on Points

Garuda is one of the cheapest ways to travel around Asia on EuroBonus points. But it is easy to book it the expensive way by mistake, so the order you book in matters.

The Garuda Codeshare

The Garuda codeshare is already live. Tickets went on sale on June 9, 2026, for travel from June 15. It connects the Scandinavian capitals with Jakarta (CGK) and Bali (DPS) through Amsterdam and Tokyo. Bangkok joins as another connecting point in the 2026/27 winter. Garuda’s own flights, including Amsterdam to Jakarta and the short Jakarta to Bali flight, can now sit on one ticket with your SAS flights.

The Cheapest Way to Reach Bali

Most people see “fly to Bali” and book one long flight from Europe. That works, but it usually costs more points than it needs to.

A Garuda flight inside Asia costs about 15,000 points one-way in Economy, with only about $65 in taxes. We booked this exact flight, Bangkok to Jakarta, and it worked with no problems. Business on these short flights is about 30,000 points one-way.

So a cheaper way to reach Bali is to split the trip into two parts:

  1. Get to an Asian city that Garuda flies from, whichever is cheapest for you: Bangkok, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Hong Kong, Seoul, or Tokyo.
  2. Fly Garuda from there into Bali, through Jakarta.

If that second part prices as one award inside Asia, it can be about 15,000 points one-way. If it splits into two separate flights instead (one to Jakarta, then one to Bali), it is closer to 30,000. Either way, it is much less than one long Economy award from Europe, which is around 95,000 points round-trip. Check which way it prices on AwardFares before you book.

Booking Two Garuda Flights Together

A trip with two Garuda flights, like Bangkok to Jakarta to Bali, does not always price as one booking online. If AwardFares shows the seats but the SAS website will not put them on one ticket, book the flights one at a time, or call the EuroBonus service center to join them (there may be a phone fee). Finding the seats is the hard part, and you can do that yourself.

Avoid the Double-Points Partners

This is the most useful thing to know, and it is easy to miss.

EuroBonus charges most SkyTeam partners the normal number of points. But three partners cost double to book: Vietnam Airlines, China Airlines, and Air Europa. Garuda is not one of them, so it stays at the normal price. So for a trip around Southeast Asia, book Garuda instead of Vietnam Airlines for the same kind of flight, and you pay half the points. Our EuroBonus guide keeps the current list of double-points partners.

Flying Garuda All the Way from Europe

If you would rather fly Garuda the whole way, the main long-haul route is Amsterdam to Jakarta, flown two to three times a week on the Boeing 777-300ER. Garuda also flies to Tokyo, Seoul, Sydney, and Jeddah.

Long-haul prices went up in the December 2025 devaluation. As a rough guide, Europe to Southeast Asia costs about:

Cabin (Europe to Southeast Asia) EuroBonus points
Economy about 95,000 round-trip
Business about 190,000 round-trip (~114,000 one-way)

Economy stayed about the same; Business went up. Check the live price on AwardFares before you book. One long flight is fine if you want the simple option, but the split trip above usually costs fewer points.

What Garuda Is Like to Fly

Garuda has won the Skytrax World’s Best Cabin Crew award six times, and the service is the main reason to fly it. On short Asian flights (the 737 and some A330 planes), Business is a wide recliner seat, not a flat bed. We reviewed this on the Bangkok to Jakarta flight. On long-haul flights (the 777 and A330neo), Business is a flat bed. Garuda is not selling First Class on any route right now, so plan for Business or Economy.

How to Find These Awards on AwardFares

The steps are the same for both airlines:

  1. Open AwardFares and choose SAS EuroBonus as your program.
  2. Pick the airline, Aerolíneas Argentinas or Garuda Indonesia, or search a whole region to see where the seats are.
  3. Use the Timeline view to see a full month of dates at once.
  4. If your date is not open yet, set an alert, and AwardFares will tell you when a seat opens.

In our recent searches, both airlines show award space well. Garuda has been reliable, and the short Asian flights are easy to find. Aerolíneas Business seats are limited, so book one as soon as you find it.

Planning Tips

  • Buenos Aires has two airports. International flights use Ezeiza (EZE). Many flights inside Argentina, including some to Patagonia, leave from the city airport, Aeroparque (AEP), on the other side of town. Leave time to cross the city, and check which airport your flight uses.
  • Book Patagonia early. The busy season is December to March, and award seats are hardest to find then. SAS now releases its own seats up to about 361 days ahead, so you can book the SAS flights early and add the Aerolíneas flights.
  • For Bali, use Garuda for the Asian flights. That is where it is cheapest. Keep Vietnam Airlines and the other double-points partners out of the plan.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I book Aerolíneas Argentinas flights with SAS EuroBonus points?

Yes. Aerolíneas Argentinas is a SkyTeam member, so you can book it with EuroBonus points. Economy inside Argentina and South America costs 22,500 points one-way, Miami or Cancún costs 30,000, and Madrid or Rome costs 54,000. Search the space on AwardFares with SAS EuroBonus selected.

Is Aerolíneas Argentinas Economy Plus bookable with points?

Not yet. Economy Plus is Aerolíneas’ new premium economy cabin, starting November 1, 2026, and for now it is a cash or paid-upgrade product. SAS has only turned on online premium economy awards for SAS, Virgin Atlantic, and Delta, and Aerolíneas is not included. You can still book Economy or Business awards on Aerolíneas with points.

Is Aerolíneas Argentinas part of Star Alliance or SkyTeam?

Aerolíneas Argentinas is a SkyTeam member, not Star Alliance. It has been in SkyTeam since 2012. SAS joined SkyTeam in 2024, so EuroBonus members can now earn and use points on Aerolíneas flights.

How many EuroBonus points do I need to fly to Patagonia?

Flights inside Argentina, including Ushuaia, El Calafate, and Bariloche, cost 22,500 points one-way in Economy. This is a flat price for all domestic flights, which makes Patagonia one of the best-value awards on the Aerolíneas chart.

Can I fly Garuda Indonesia with SAS EuroBonus points?

Yes. Garuda Indonesia is a SkyTeam member, so you can book it with EuroBonus points. Short flights inside Asia cost about 15,000 points one-way in Economy. The new SAS and Garuda codeshare also lets Garuda flights share one ticket with your SAS flights.

How many points do I need to fly to Bali?

The cheapest way is to split the trip. Get to an Asian city like Bangkok or Singapore, then fly Garuda into Bali through Jakarta. That Garuda part costs about 15,000 points one-way if it prices as one award, or about 30,000 if it splits into two flights. Both cost far less than one long Economy award from Europe, which is around 95,000 points round-trip.

Why do some SkyTeam partners cost double points on EuroBonus?

EuroBonus charges double points to book three partners: Vietnam Airlines, China Airlines, and Air Europa. Garuda is not one of them, so it costs the normal number of points. For trips around Southeast Asia, booking Garuda instead of these three can cut the points in half.

Does Garuda Indonesia have First Class?

Garuda is not selling First Class on any route right now, so plan for Business or Economy. On long-haul flights, Business is a flat bed. On short Asian flights, Business is a wide recliner seat.

How do I book these award flights?

Find the space on AwardFares with SAS EuroBonus selected, then book through SAS. For Aerolíneas, you may need to call the airline afterwards to get its own booking code so you can pick seats. For a trip with two Garuda flights, you may need to call the EuroBonus service center to put them on one ticket.
