What Is AwardHack?

AwardHack is aiming to be “The Operating System for Your Rewards”: a collection of 50+ calculators, trackers, and maps that manage the parts of award travel that happen around the flight search.

What a route should cost in miles. How many points you have and what they’re worth. How to move them between programs (and take advantage of the best offers). Which card to apply for next. Which credits, certificates and vouchers expire soon.

Award Flight Pricer

AwardHack’s Award Flight Pricer answers a question every award traveler has asked: how many miles should this flight cost?

Different airlines charge very different amounts for the same seat, as we can clearly see with our redesigned flight list when performing a search across multiple programs in AwardFares:

This matters even more nowadays for programs with dynamic pricing, where the range of prices can vary drastically. It’s also extremely useful if you earn points on a credit card program that are transferrable to multiple airlines.

For example the same ANA Business Class seat from New York to Tokyo costs 50,000+ miles through ANA Mileage Club, 60,000 through Virgin Atlantic, 75,000 through Aeroplan, and 100,000 through United.

The Pricer compares 20+ programs, marks the sweet spots, and shows the taxes you can expect with each option.

For AwardFares members this is the natural first stop before a search: the Pricer tells you which programs to consider and what a fair price looks like, then AwardFares tells you when those seats are available to be booked.

Benefits Tracker

The points that pay for your award flights usually come from a travel credit card, and those cards only make sense if you use the credits that offset their annual fee. Most people don’t: the credits are small, spread across several cards, and they expire monthly or quarterly.

The Benefits Tracker lists every credit with the amount and days left, and the dashboard puts the urgent ones on top. On our account that was a $10 Lyft credit and a $20 DoorDash grocery credit on a Chase Sapphire Reserve, each with 30 days left. One click marks a perk as used.

It’s extremely simple to track your benefits: simply add the credit cards you have and when the account was opened (for the correct deadlines), and the tool will automatically populate the benefits for you.

The dashboard also shows your total portfolio value, and every annual fee coming up. If you’ve ever kept this in a spreadsheet, you know how much work that view replaces.

Transfer Tools

Transfers are where real money is saved or lost. Active Transfer Bonuses shows every bonus running right now (usually 20 to 30%). The AI Bonus Predictor estimates when one is likely to return, based on each partner pair’s history: for example, an 82% probability of a 30% Chase to Virgin Atlantic bonus in the next 60 days.

And Instant vs. Delayed tells you which transfers arrive immediately, because an award seat can disappear while your points are still in transit. If a bonus is running to the program your seat is priced in, the exact seat AwardFares just found becomes 20 to 30% cheaper.

Points Tracker & Valuation

AwardHack’s Points Tracker monitors balances and expiration dates across programs. You can get alerts when your miles are close to expiring, so you have time to act. This is useful if you collect points in multiple loyalty programs.

In addition, AwardHack keeps a live exchange rate for your miles. Every balance you track gets an estimated worth in dollars, based on a benchmark cents-per-point (CPP) value for that program, and the dashboard adds it all up into a total net worth.

On our account, 147,032 Flying Blue miles show an estimated worth of $3,175.89 at a benchmark 2.16 CPP.

That number changes how you redeem. When AwardFares shows you a seat for 60,000 miles, the benchmark tells you whether the redemption beats the average value for that program or falls short of it. The companion tools (Points vs Cash and the Redemption Tracker) close the loop: compare paying with points against paying cash before you book, and record the value you actually got afterwards.
