What is the British Airways Club?

The new British Airways Club, formerly known as the British Airways Executive Club, is the loyalty program of British Airways. Effective April 1, 2025, the program underwent significant changes, including a rebranding and an overhaul of its tier points system. Members can earn Avios points through flights, partner airlines, and various other activities, which can then be redeemed for flights, upgrades, and other rewards. The program features different membership tiers: Blue, Bronze, Silver, and Gold, each offering progressively more benefits such as priority boarding, lounge access, and increased Avios accrual.

Key changes to the British Airways Club in 2025

  • Rebranding and Tier Point System Overhaul: On April 1, 2025, British Airways rebranded its loyalty program from the Executive Club to the British Airways Club. The tier points system was revamped to award points based on spending rather than distance traveled. Members now earn 1 tier point for every £1 of eligible spend, which includes base fares and carrier-imposed charges but excludes taxes and airport fees.
  • Adjusted Tier Thresholds: The thresholds for achieving elite status were updated as follows:
    • Bronze: 3,500 tier points
    • Silver: 7,500 tier points
    • Gold: 20,000 tier points
  • Earning Tier Points Beyond Flights: Members can now earn tier points through additional avenues, including:
    • Booking British Airways Holidays packages
    • Paying for extra baggage
    • Selecting seats in advance
    • Contributing to Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAF)
  • Retaining Status via Flight Count: In response to customer feedback, British Airways introduced the option to retain status based on the number of flights taken:
    • Bronze: 25 British Airways flights annually
    • Silver: 50 British Airways flights annually
  • Bonus Tier Points: An enhanced bonus tier point scheme was introduced, with increased points awarded per flight, especially in premium cabins. This initiative was backdated to include flights booked since December 2024 and extended to bookings made before December 31, 2025.
  • Earning Tier Points via Credit Card Spending: British Airways American Express Premium Plus cardholders can earn up to 2,500 tier points annually through spending. Details on this initiative are forthcoming.

How much are British Airways Avios worth?

The estimated average value of a British Airways Avios is between 1.2 and 1.8 cents (USD) per point, although in some cases it can exceed 2 cents. The value varies depending on the flight distance, class of service, operating airline, and whether the redemption is made during the low season. The best value is found by pre-booking long-haul Business Class flights with partner airlines such as Qatar Airways or Iberia. The worst value is usually found on short flights operated by British Airways with high surcharges or when using Avios for partial discounts without promotions.
