What is Club Iberia Plus?

Club Iberia Plus is the revamped loyalty program of Iberia, Spain's flagship carrier, offering members the opportunity to earn and redeem Avios across a wide network of airline partners. Effective April 1, 2025, the program introduces a new structure aimed at enhancing member benefits and simplifying the path to elite status. Members can accumulate Avios through flights, everyday purchases, and partner activities, redeemable for flight tickets, upgrades, hotel stays, car rentals, and more.

The program features multiple membership tiers: Clásica, Plata, Oro, Platino, the newly introduced Platino Prime, Infinita, and Infinita Prime, each offering progressively greater benefits such as priority boarding, lounge access, and increased Avios accrual.

Key changes to the new Club Iberia Plus in 2025

• New Elite Points System: Starting April 1, 2025, Club Iberia Plus transitions to a spend-based model for earning Elite Points. Members will earn 1 Elite Point per €1 spent on flights with the Iberia Group, excluding taxes and fees. This includes expenditures on base fares and carrier-imposed charges, as well as additional services like seat selection and extra baggage.

• Earning Elite Points with Partners: Members can also accumulate Elite Points through transactions with non-airline partners. For every 10 Avios earned with associated brands, 1 Elite Point is awarded. Up to 30% of the Elite Points required to reach the next tier can be earned via these partner activities.

• Introduction of Platino Prime Tier: A new elite tier, Platino Prime, has been introduced, requiring 30,000 Elite Points for qualification. This tier offers enhanced benefits and is designed for the most frequent travelers seeking exclusive privileges.

• Adjusted Tier Requirements: The thresholds for achieving various membership levels have been updated as follows:

• Bonus Elite Points for Fare Classes: Depending on the fare class and flight distance, members can earn additional Elite Points per segment. For example, on short and medium-haul flights (≤3,000 miles), selecting an Economy Optima fare grants an extra 75 Elite Points, while a Business Flexible fare on the same route offers an additional 275 Elite Points.

• Avios Earning Rates: The method for collecting and redeeming Avios remains unchanged. Members continue to earn Avios based on the fare and class of service, which can be redeemed for flights, upgrades, and other rewards.

How many Avios for a flight?

The number of Avios required for award flights varies based on factors such as destination, class of service, and demand. While specific redemption rates are subject to change, members can use Iberia's Avios calculator to estimate the Avios needed for their desired routes. Generally, short-haul flights may start from as low as 4,500 Avios, while long-haul flights could require upwards of 17,000 Avios.

For example:

• A Madrid-London flight in economy can cost from 4,500 Avios + taxes (~€30), offering a value of around €0.01 per Avios.
• A Madrid-New York flight in business class from 34,000 Avios + ~€120 in taxes can offer a value of over €0.025 per Avios, depending on the cash fare.

How much are Avios worth when redeeming with Iberia?

In economy class, the estimated value is usually between €0.008 and €0.012 per Avios. In business class, especially on long-haul routes, you can get a value of over €0.02 per Avios, making these redemptions one of the most advantageous.
