Best Etihad Cabins to Book With Miles (2026)

Best Etihad Cabins to Book With Miles (2026)

Etihad offers several very different ways to use miles, from a short Economy flight to the First Apartment and The Residence on the Airbus A380. The important part is choosing the right aircraft and award type. A First Class booking on a Boeing 787, for example, does not provide the same seat as a First Apartment on the A380.

This guide compares Etihad’s main cabins, explains where the A380 flies in 2026, and shows how to find the right aircraft and award price with AwardFares.

Key Takeaways

  • The Residence is an upgrade: start with an eligible First ticket on an A380, then check whether The Residence can be selected and paid for with Etihad Guest miles.
  • The First Apartment is only on the A380: confirm the aircraft before transferring points or booking.
  • Etihad’s A380 no longer flies to New York: the announced 2026 network includes London, Paris, Singapore, Toronto, Tokyo, and Bangkok from October 25.
  • Cabin names do not guarantee the same seat: Etihad uses several versions of First, Business, and Economy across its fleet.
  • Fixed-rate seats provide the best starting point: Etihad calls them Promo seats on some pages and Saver Awards on others.
  • Prices are not guaranteed: compare dates in AwardFares and confirm the final amount and fare rules with Etihad before transferring points.

The Residence: An Upgrade From First

The Residence is a three-room suite for up to two guests, with a private living room, bedroom, and ensuite shower. It is available only on Etihad’s Airbus A380.

The key booking detail is that The Residence is not presented as a separate fixed-rate award in the standard award search. Start by selecting an eligible First ticket on an A380 flight, then check whether The Residence is offered during seat selection. Eligible upgrades can be paid for with Etihad Guest miles, but not every First fare qualifies.

Etihad’s announced A380 network for 2026 includes:

New York is not an Etihad A380 route. Etihad still flies between Abu Dhabi and New York, but those flights do not offer the First Apartment or The Residence.

First Apartment on the A380

The First Apartment has a wide leather chair and a separate bench that converts into a bed. A380 First passengers also have access to an onboard shower. It provides much more personal space than a conventional First Class suite.

  • Aircraft: Airbus A380 only
  • Current and announced routes: London, Paris, Singapore, Toronto, Tokyo, and Bangkok from October 25, 2026
  • How to book: search First Class, confirm that the flight is scheduled to use an A380, and look for fixed-rate availability
  • Price: the last published starting-rate reference for Abu Dhabi-London was 120,000 miles one-way in First, excluding taxes and carrier charges. Current prices can differ.

Aircraft assignments can change. Check the equipment in AwardFares and again on Etihad’s website before paying for a trip specifically to fly the First Apartment.

First Suite on Selected 787, 777, and A321LR Aircraft

Etihad also offers a First Suite on selected Boeing 787, Boeing 777, and Airbus A321LR aircraft. These are enclosed suites with a lie-flat bed, but they are not the larger First Apartment found on the A380.

This difference matters when comparing flights. A route may offer First Class on several aircraft, but only an A380 flight has the First Apartment, onboard shower, and the option to move up to The Residence. Not every 787 or 777 configuration includes First, so always inspect the aircraft and seat map.

Etihad’s official fleet page lists its current aircraft and seat maps.

Business Studio and Business Suite

Etihad’s long-haul Business cabins generally provide direct aisle access and a fully flat bed, but the seat design varies by aircraft.

  • Airbus A350: Business suites with privacy doors, wireless charging, and an 18.5-inch screen.
  • Boeing 787: several configurations of the Business Studio are in service.
  • Airbus A380: Business Studio seats on the upper deck, with access to The Lobby social area.
  • Boeing 777: the exact seat and cabin layout depend on the aircraft configuration.

Useful routes to compare include Abu Dhabi-Melbourne, Abu Dhabi-Frankfurt, and Abu Dhabi-Tokyo. These links search the cabin, not a guaranteed aircraft type, so check the flight details before booking.

Economy and Extra Legroom Seats

Etihad Economy is the same award cabin whether you choose a standard seat or pay for extra legroom. Products such as Economy Space describe the seat selection, not a separate award inventory type.

Fixed-rate Economy awards were introduced with prices starting at 5,000 miles one-way on the shortest routes. Longer flights require more miles. Seat selection may cost extra depending on the fare option and the member’s Etihad Guest status.

Search examples include Abu Dhabi-Bangkok, Abu Dhabi-Cairo, and Abu Dhabi-London.

How Etihad Guest Awards Work in 2026

Etihad’s award names vary across its website. GuestSeat was renamed Saver Award in November 2025, while current English booking information also uses Promo seat for limited fixed-rate inventory. This guide uses fixed-rate award to avoid confusion.

There are two practical ways to use miles:

  1. Fixed-rate Promo/Saver seats have limited availability and lower starting prices.
  2. Standard available seats paid with miles provide more choice but usually require more miles and follow the rules of the commercial fare purchased.

Fixed-rate awards issued or reissued from November 13, 2025 use Value, Comfort, and Deluxe fare options. Value costs 600 AED to change and cannot be canceled; Comfort costs 200 AED to change and forfeits 25% of the miles when canceled; Deluxe changes and cancellations are free. None of these fixed-rate fares permits changes or cancellations within 72 hours of departure.

How Much Do Etihad Cabins Cost With Miles?

Etihad does not publish a complete guaranteed award chart. Its miles calculator shows the current fixed-rate price for a route, but the result does not guarantee that inventory will be available on your dates.

These figures provide useful reference points from Etihad’s last published starting-rate structure:

Example One-Way Distance Economy From Business From First From
0-500 miles 5,000 15,000 30,000
3,001-4,000 miles 30,000 70,000 120,000
6,001+ miles 60,000 120,000 160,000

The middle row includes Abu Dhabi-London. Treat these numbers as starting references, not guaranteed prices. Always confirm the mileage amount, taxes, aircraft, fare option, and cancellation rules before transferring points.
