GOL Smiles Brazil Guide 2026

GOL Smiles Brazil Guide 2026

GOL Smiles Brazil has changed significantly in 2026. GOL launched its first long-haul business class, INSIGNIA, Smiles added the new Magno elite tier, and new earning rules took effect for GOL tickets issued from June 17, 2026.

This guide explains how the Brazilian Smiles program works, including how to earn and use miles, current Clube Smiles prices, mileage expiration, airline partners, elite status, and how to search for award flights with AwardFares.

Smiles also operates in Argentina, but it is a separate program with different earning methods and promotions. This guide covers Smiles Brazil.

Key Takeaways

  • Dynamic award pricing: Smiles does not publish a simple fixed award chart. Prices can change by route, date, cabin, and demand.
  • New GOL earning rates: tickets issued from June 17, 2026 earn according to the amount spent, your Smiles category, and whether the flight is within South America.
  • Long mileage validity: standard validity now ranges from 3 to 20 years, depending on how the miles were earned and your elite category. Promotional miles may follow different rules.
  • More than 50 airline partners: GOL is not in a global alliance, but Smiles provides access to GOL plus 55 partner airlines.
  • New Magno tier: qualification requires 50,000 qualifying miles and 50 qualifying segments. Members receive 50 cabin-upgrade credits when entering or renewing the category.
  • Search across dates: AwardFares helps you compare Smiles prices across several dates, routes, cabins, and supported partner airlines.

What Is GOL Smiles and How Does It Work?

Smiles is the loyalty program of GOL Linhas Aéreas. Members can earn miles from GOL and partner flights, Brazilian bank-point transfers, GOL Smiles credit cards, Clube Smiles, and shopping partners. Miles can be used for flights, hotels, rental cars, and other products, although flights are the main focus of this guide.

GOL is part of the Abra Group, which also controls Avianca. Smiles and Avianca LifeMiles remain separate accounts and currencies. A limited, invitation-only LifeMiles-to-Smiles transfer test has existed, but members should not assume that transfers between the programs are generally available. The current conditions appear on the official Avianca partner page.

GOL does not belong to a global airline alliance. Instead, Smiles has individual agreements with airlines from Star Alliance, oneworld, SkyTeam, and non-alliance carriers. Award prices, availability, and booking conditions can differ by partner.

Important program features include:

  • Clube Smiles: a paid subscription that deposits miles every month and provides additional benefits.
  • Conta Família: an administrator can invite up to five eligible members. Miles earned after the family account is created move automatically to the administrator.
  • Smiles & Money: eligible bookings can be paid with a combination of miles and cash.
  • Elite categories: Prata, Ouro, Diamante, and Magno add benefits and longer mileage validity.
  • Dynamic pricing: award prices can vary substantially between dates, even on the same route.

What’s New With GOL Smiles in 2026?

These are the most important recent changes:

  • New earning rules took effect on June 17, 2026. Redeemable-mile rates now vary by elite category. International flights outside South America use US dollars rather than Brazilian reais as the basis for earning. The exact rates are covered below.
  • Magno became the fifth Smiles category. It sits above Diamante and requires both 50,000 qualifying miles and 50 qualifying segments. The official Magno page lists benefits including a 24-hour concierge and 50 cabin-upgrade credits.
  • GOL introduced INSIGNIA business class. The new long-haul cabin has fully lie-flat seats and operates on GOL’s A330-900neo flights. Seasonal nonstop service between New York (JFK) and Rio de Janeiro (GIG) began in July 2026. See the official GOL route page and INSIGNIA overview.
  • GOL completed its US financial restructuring. The airline exited Chapter 11 in June 2025. GOL provides the details in its official restructuring announcement.
  • The proposed GOL-Azul combination ended. The companies ended their negotiations and codeshare in September 2025. Smiles and Azul Fidelidade remain separate programs. We covered the original proposal in our GOL and Azul merger article.
  • Mileage validity was expanded. Standard validity now depends on the member’s category and whether miles came from GOL flights or another standard earning source. Bonus and promotional miles may still expire sooner.

Does GOL Smiles Have an Award Chart?

Smiles does not publish a simple fixed award chart that lets members predict every redemption price. Flight awards use dynamic pricing, so the mileage cost can change according to the route, date, cabin, demand, operating airline, and available fare.

The same flight may cost a different number of miles on nearby dates. A connecting itinerary can also price differently from the sum of its individual flights. Any mileage amount shown in this guide is therefore an example, not a guaranteed price.

Compare Through-Itineraries and Individual Segments

The following example shows why it is useful to compare both options. A one-way economy award from Florianópolis (FLN) to Recife (REC), connecting at São Paulo-Congonhas (CGH), was available for 35,000 miles:

Smiles price of 35,000 miles for a Florianópolis to Recife connecting itinerary.

The individual Florianópolis-Congonhas segment also cost 35,000 miles:

Smiles price of 35,000 miles for the Florianópolis to São Paulo-Congonhas segment.

The Congonhas-Recife segment was priced at the same level:

Smiles price of 35,000 miles for the São Paulo-Congonhas to Recife segment.

In this example, booking the connecting itinerary was much cheaper than booking the two flights separately. This will not always be the case, so compare the complete itinerary and its individual segments before redeeming.

Check the Cash Cost

Always review the taxes, fees, and any carrier-imposed charges before booking. Two awards with similar mileage prices can have very different cash costs, particularly on international partner flights.

Register for Promotions Before Transferring

Smiles regularly runs discounted-award and bank-transfer campaigns. Registration is often required before the transaction, and bonus miles can have a shorter expiration period. Check the campaign rules, the bonus cap, and the expiration date before moving points.

Best Ways To Use Smiles Miles

Because prices are dynamic, the best uses are routes and patterns to monitor rather than guaranteed fixed-price deals:

  • GOL flights within Brazil: compare several dates and nearby airports. Domestic prices can vary widely, so flexibility matters.
  • INSIGNIA business class: monitor GOL’s A330-900neo routes, including Rio-New York, for award availability. Do not transfer points until you find a price and seat you are prepared to book.
  • International partner flights: Smiles provides access to carriers across several alliances, which can create options that are not available through a single alliance program.
  • Connecting and nonstop itineraries: search both. Dynamic pricing means the nonstop is not always more expensive, and separate segments are not always cheaper.
  • Smiles & Money: compare the additional cash payment with the miles saved. The value of the cash-and-miles option changes by booking.

Monitor INSIGNIA Availability

Use an AwardFares alert to monitor GOL’s long-haul routes. An alert lets you wait for availability without repeating the same search every day.

How To Earn Smiles Miles in Brazil

The main ways to build a Smiles Brazil balance are GOL and partner flights, Livelo and Esfera transfers, Clube Smiles, GOL Smiles credit cards, purchased miles, and retail partners.

Smiles Argentina has different earning options and promotions. See our separate GOL Smiles Argentina guide if your account is registered there.

Earn Miles on GOL Flights

For GOL tickets issued from June 17, 2026, redeemable-mile earning follows this table:

Smiles category Domestic and South America, per R$1 Other international flights, per US$1
Smiles 1 mile 5 miles
Prata 2 miles 8 miles
Ouro 3 miles 10 miles
Diamante 5 miles 11 miles
Magno 6 miles 12 miles

Qualifying miles are earned at 1 per R$1 on domestic and South American GOL tickets and 2 per US$1 on other international GOL tickets. Eligible elite members can earn additional miles on routes registered through the Rota Favorita benefit. The purchase date—not the travel date—determines whether the new rules apply. See the official GOL earning rules.

Earning on partner airlines follows the rules for that carrier and can depend on distance, booking class, and elite category. Check the partner page before deciding where to credit a flight.

Transfer Livelo and Esfera Points

Livelo and Esfera are two of the most important sources of Smiles miles in Brazil. Transfer bonuses are common, but the percentage, eligibility, cap, and bonus-mile validity change between campaigns.

A sensible approach is to keep flexible points in their original program until you have:

  1. Found the award you want.
  2. Confirmed the current Smiles price and cash fees.
  3. Registered for the transfer campaign, if required.
  4. Checked how long the transferred and bonus miles will remain valid.

Transfers are usually final, and award availability can change while the points are moving.

Clube Smiles Plans and Prices

Clube Smiles is a monthly subscription that deposits a fixed number of miles into your account. The miles included with the plan are valid for 10 years, and every 10 plan miles earn 1 qualifying mile. Other benefits can include early access to selected promotions, transfer bonuses, and complimentary GOL award holds.

These are the standard monthly prices published in the current Clube Smiles terms:

Plan Monthly miles Standard monthly price
Clube 1,000 1,000 R$42
Clube 2,000 2,000 R$78
Clube 5,000 5,000 R$162
Clube 7,000 7,000 R$219
Clube 10,000 10,000 R$299
Clube 20,000 20,000 R$819 (special plan)

Annual payment offers and promotional prices can differ from this table. Check the total commitment and any minimum-stay condition before subscribing. For a broader comparison, see our guide to frequent flyer programs with subscriptions.

Conta Família

Conta Família lets an administrator invite up to five eligible people, creating a group of up to six members. Only miles earned after the family account is created transfer automatically to the administrator; existing balances do not move.

The administrator must generally have an active Clube Smiles subscription for at least 30 days or hold Diamante status. Invited members must be Clube Smiles subscribers or hold Diamante or Magno status. Review the current eligibility rules on the official Conta Família page.

GOL Smiles Credit Cards

GOL Smiles co-branded cards are issued by Banco do Brasil, Bradesco, and Santander. Available tiers, annual fees, mileage rates, welcome offers, and travel benefits vary by issuer and can change frequently. Compare the current issuer terms instead of choosing a card from an older mileage-rate table.

General Brazilian credit cards can also generate Smiles miles indirectly through Livelo or Esfera.

Buying Miles

At the time of this update, the Smiles purchase page displayed a standard price of R$0.08 per mile, or R$80 per 1,000 miles. Purchased miles were valid for 12 months. Smiles frequently changes purchase bonuses and conditions, so check the current purchase page before paying.

Buying miles at the standard price is rarely the first option we would choose. Compare the cost with a bank transfer, Clube subscription, Smiles & Money, and the cash ticket price.

Do GOL Smiles Miles Expire?

Yes. The expiration period depends on your category and how the miles were earned.

The current Smiles category page publishes these standard validity periods:

Category Miles earned on GOL flights Other standard redeemable miles
Smiles 6 years 3 years
Prata 6 years 3 years
Ouro 8 years 4 years
Diamante 20 years 10 years
Magno 20 years 10 years

There are important exceptions:

  • Miles deposited as part of a Clube Smiles plan are valid for 10 years.
  • Purchased miles currently have 12-month validity.
  • Promotional and bonus miles can follow shorter campaign-specific rules.
  • Validity is normally determined when the miles are credited, based on the applicable category and product rules.

Check each transaction in your Smiles account and review the current program rules and category benefits before relying on a general expiration period.

Check Each Mileage Balance

Do not assume that every mile in your account shares the same expiration date. Standard flight miles, Clube deposits, purchased miles, and promotional bonuses may all expire on different schedules.

Smiles & Money, Refunds, and Booking Rules

These booking rules are worth checking before you confirm an award:

  • Smiles & Money: eligible bookings let you combine miles and cash. Calculate how much extra cash you pay for each mile saved before selecting an option.
  • Changes and cancellations: fees and refund conditions depend on the fare, operating airline, elite category, and current rules. Read the conditions shown at checkout.
  • Online partner bookings: many partner flights can be booked on the Smiles website, but availability and supported itineraries vary.
  • Results must be verified: if a result appears in an award search tool but not on Smiles, do not assume it is bookable. Confirm it with Smiles before transferring or purchasing miles.
  • Separate-segment risks: two awards booked separately may require more miles and leave you unprotected if a delay causes a missed connection.

GOL Smiles Airline Partners

GOL is not part of Star Alliance, oneworld, or SkyTeam. The official Smiles directory currently advertises GOL plus 55 partner airlines and access to more than 1,600 destinations.

Major partners include:

Partner Why it may be useful
Air France and KLM Brazil-Europe service and connections through Paris and Amsterdam
American Airlines Connections within the United States and long-haul oneworld routes
Avianca A large network in Colombia and across the Americas
Emirates Flights through Dubai to the Middle East, Asia, and Africa
Qatar Airways International connections through Doha
Iberia Flights between Brazil, Madrid, and onward European destinations
British Airways Flights through London and the broader oneworld network
Turkish Airlines International connections through Istanbul
ANA Access to Japan and other destinations in Asia
Etihad Airways Flights through Abu Dhabi and onward connections

The list and individual earning rules can change. Search the current directory before crediting a paid flight or transferring miles for a specific partner redemption.

GOL Smiles Elite Status

Smiles has five categories: Smiles, Prata, Ouro, Diamante, and Magno.

Category Qualification requirement GOL redeemable-mile rate within South America GOL redeemable-mile rate outside South America
Smiles Join the program 1 per R$1 5 per US$1
Prata 6,000 qualifying miles or 6 qualifying segments 2 per R$1 8 per US$1
Ouro 12,000 qualifying miles or 12 qualifying segments 3 per R$1 10 per US$1
Diamante 24,000 qualifying miles or 24 qualifying segments 5 per R$1 11 per US$1
Magno 50,000 qualifying miles and 50 qualifying segments 6 per R$1 12 per US$1

The distinction in the Magno requirement is important: Prata, Ouro, and Diamante can be reached with qualifying miles or segments, while Magno requires both.

Benefits increase by category and can include checked baggage, preferred seats, priority services, lounge access, award-price benefits, and cabin-upgrade credits. Smiles also awards selected benefits during progress between category thresholds.

Magno members receive 50 cabin-upgrade credits when entering the category and at renewal. Those credits can be used to request upgrades on eligible international GOL flights, including INSIGNIA, according to availability and the benefit rules. This is not an unlimited or automatic business-class upgrade.

The category earned through an upgrade is generally valid for the rest of that calendar year plus 15 months. Renewal rules and benefit balances have additional conditions, so confirm them on the current category page.

How To Join Smiles as a Foreigner

Foreign residents can join Smiles without a Brazilian CPF. The unified GOL-Smiles signup accepts a CPF, RNE, or passport, and foreign applicants must provide their nationality.

A foreign account can earn miles from eligible partner flights and redeem on GOL or partner airlines. Some Brazil-only products still require a valid CPF, a Brazilian-issued credit card, or local billing information. Clube Smiles, for example, requires a valid Brazilian CPF under its current terms.

See the official unified-account requirements and our article about GOL Smiles joining AwardFares.

Frequently Asked Questions

Your Questions Answered

What is GOL Smiles?

Smiles is the loyalty program of GOL Linhas Aéreas. Members earn miles from GOL and partner flights, Brazilian financial partners, Clube Smiles, credit cards, and shopping partners. Miles can be redeemed for GOL and partner flights and other travel products.

Is GOL part of an airline alliance?

No. GOL is not a member of Star Alliance, oneworld, or SkyTeam. Smiles instead has individual agreements with 55 partner airlines across several alliances.

Does GOL Smiles have a fixed award chart?

No simple public chart predicts every award price. Smiles uses dynamic pricing, so the mileage amount can change by route, date, cabin, demand, and operating airline.

Do GOL Smiles miles expire?

Yes. Standard validity ranges from 3 years for non-GOL miles held by base or Prata members to 20 years for GOL-flight miles held by Diamante or Magno members. Clube deposits are valid for 10 years, while purchased and promotional miles can have shorter validity.

What is Clube Smiles and how much does it cost?

Clube Smiles is a subscription that deposits miles every month and adds program benefits. The standard published prices currently start at R$42 per month for Clube 1,000. Promotional and annual-payment offers may differ.

How does Conta Família work?

An eligible administrator can invite up to five eligible members. Miles earned after the family account is created transfer automatically to the administrator, but existing balances do not.

How do I earn Smiles miles on GOL flights?

For tickets issued from June 17, 2026, members earn 1 to 6 miles per R$1 on domestic and South American GOL flights, or 5 to 12 miles per US$1 on other international GOL flights. The exact rate depends on elite category.

Does GOL have business class?

Yes. GOL introduced INSIGNIA business class on its A330-900neo long-haul flights in 2026. The cabin includes fully lie-flat seats and operates on selected international routes, including seasonal New York-Rio service.

What is the Magno tier?

Magno is the category above Diamante. It requires 50,000 qualifying miles and 50 qualifying segments. Members receive 50 cabin-upgrade credits when entering or renewing the category; upgrade requests remain subject to the benefit rules and availability.

Can foreigners join GOL Smiles?

Yes. Foreign residents can create an account with a passport or RNE instead of a CPF. Some Brazil-only products, including Clube Smiles, still require a valid Brazilian CPF and local payment details.

Can I transfer miles between LifeMiles and Smiles?

The programs remain separate. Smiles has hosted a limited, invitation-only experimental option for transferring LifeMiles into Smiles, but members should not assume that a general or two-way transfer is available.

How do I book a GOL flight with miles?

Search for award availability, select a result, and complete the reservation through Smiles. AwardFares can help compare supported results across dates and routes, but the final mileage price and booking conditions must be verified on the Smiles website.
