American Airlines is bringing back its nonstop Chicago O’Hare (ORD) to Tokyo Narita (NRT) route on March 27, 2027. The flight will operate daily, year-round, on a Boeing 787-9 with 30 Flagship Business seats and 21 Premium Economy seats.

American’s New Chicago–Tokyo Narita Flight

American announced the route on July 1. It will be the airline’s 11th long-haul route from Chicago and will operate in partnership with Japan Airlines.

Narita is less central than Tokyo Haneda, but it works well for connections. American says the schedule will connect with Japan Airlines flights to destinations including Bangkok, Singapore, Taipei, and Ho Chi Minh City.

The assigned 787-9 has 30 lie-flat Flagship Business seats and 21 Premium Economy seats. That is a solid option for the long transpacific flight, but check the operating aircraft again before booking because schedules and equipment can change.

How Much Will an Award Cost?

There is no fixed answer. American uses dynamic pricing for awards on American-operated flights, while partner programs only get access when American releases seats to them.

Build a Useful Alert

Do not alert on price alone. Set the passenger count you actually need, require a nonstop flight if that matters, and exclude mixed cabins. This prevents a cheap Economy connection from triggering an alert intended for the nonstop Business Class flight.

AwardFares’ Conclusion

American’s daily Chicago–Tokyo Narita flight adds another useful nonstop to Japan from March 2027. Right now, AAdvantage shows the best overall availability, while Atmos has Economy seats and Finnair Plus and Qantas show nothing. That makes this a good route to compare across programs and track with an alert.
