American Airlines AAdvantage Award Chart 2026: Prices

American Airlines AAdvantage Award Chart 2026: Prices

American Airlines AAdvantage is really two award programs sharing one mileage balance. Flights operated by American use dynamic pricing. Partner awards generally use American’s published region-based chart, although American describes those figures as estimated starting values, applies routing-specific rules, and can price some Fiji Airways awards dynamically.

The short answer: AA-operated awards start at 7,500 miles one-way, plus taxes and fees. American opens its booking calendar 331 days before departure, and awards can be booked until two hours before the flight. The tables below show the current planning values; always confirm the complete itinerary on AA.com.

Key Takeaways for 2026

  • AA Awards Are Dynamic: American-operated flights start at 7,500 miles one-way, but the price changes by flight and date. There is no fixed saver level.
  • Partner Awards Use a Separate Chart: Current partner starting values include 60,000 miles for Japan Airlines Business Class to Japan and 70,000 miles for Qatar Airways Business Class to the Middle East, when the routing and inventory qualify.
  • The Calendar Opens 331 Days Out: American lets you book awards from 331 days until two hours before departure. The operating airline controls when partner inventory appears.
  • AA.com Sets the Final Price: Use the charts to set a target, compare availability across dates, and verify the miles, cabin, routing, and fees on AA.com before booking.
  • Award Holds Still Exist: Eligible awards booked 7-331 days before departure can usually be held for one day. Trips 1-6 days out require instant purchase, and some partners allow shorter holds.

AAdvantage Award Chart 2026: AA and Partner Pricing

For a simple itinerary, start with the operating carrier: a wholly American-operated award is dynamic, while most partner awards use the published region chart. Fiji Airways is a current dynamic-pricing exception, and mixed-carrier itineraries can trigger additional routing rules, so price the complete trip on AA.com.

Award Chart for American Airlines-Operated Flights

American calls these estimated starting values for one-way travel originating in North America. The current AA chart combines Business and First into one Business / First column; the final price and cabin appear during booking.

Destination Main Cabin Premium Economy Business / First
Contiguous U.S. and Canada 7,500+ 15,000+
Alaska and Hawaii 20,000+ 40,000+ 60,000+
Mexico, Caribbean, Central America 10,000+ 20,000+
South America: Short Haul 15,000+ 30,000+
South America: Long Haul 30,000+ 60,000+ 90,000+
Europe 25,000+ 50,000+ 75,000+
Asia, Middle East, South Pacific 35,000+ 60,000+ 95,000+

For AA-operated flights, American defines South America: Short Haul as Colombia, Ecuador, Guyana, and Peru. South America: Long Haul covers Argentina, Brazil, Chile, and Uruguay. The Caribbean includes Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. These definitions apply only to the AA-operated chart. Partner awards use the separate Region 1 and Region 2 definitions below.

Check the live source on American’s AA-operated award page. The + matters: a 75,000-mile starting value to Europe does not mean every AA Business Class seat costs 75,000 miles.

AAdvantage Partner Award Chart

These are American’s current estimated starting values for one-way partner awards from the contiguous 48 U.S. states and Canada.

South Pacific 40,000 65,000 80,000 110,000

For partner awards, South America Region 1 includes Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Guyana, Manaus in Brazil, Peru, and Suriname. South America Region 2 includes Argentina, Brazil except Manaus, Chile, the Falkland Islands, Paraguay, Uruguay, and Venezuela. Do not use the AA-operated short-haul and long-haul definitions for these partner prices.

The Europe off-peak Main Cabin price applies January 10-March 14 and November 1-December 14. American also publishes several route-specific rules:

  • Awards with a lie-flat domestic U.S./Canada segment can cost 7,500 more miles in Business / First.
  • A flight within Hawaii requires a separate award and must be on Hawaiian Airlines.
  • Europe and Africa awards are transatlantic; Asia and South Pacific awards are transpacific.
  • Transpacific travel to the Indian Subcontinent is permitted via Hong Kong only, with carrier restrictions on each sector.
  • A one-way trip with two long-haul international flights requires two awards.

Use the region definitions and complete footnotes on American’s live partner chart. The table is a planning tool, not a substitute for pricing the itinerary.

Which AAdvantage Partner Airlines Can You Book?

AAdvantage miles can book every current oneworld member when award space is available. Among them are Alaska Airlines, British Airways, Cathay Pacific, Fiji Airways, Finnair, Hawaiian Airlines, Iberia, Japan Airlines, Oman Air, Qantas, and Qatar Airways.

American also works with independent partners including Aer Lingus, Air Tahiti Nui, China Southern, Etihad Airways, GOL, IndiGo, JetSMART, LEVEL, and Porter Airlines. Earning and redemption access are not identical across every partner, so check American’s live partner directory rather than relying on a static airline count.

Most major partner awards can be booked on AA.com. Two current exceptions are worth remembering:

  • JetSMART awards can be booked online, but an AA.com JetSMART award must contain only JetSMART flights.
  • China Southern appears on American’s partner award page but not in its main online-redemption list. Call Reservations if valid inventory does not appear online.

Hawaiian Is No Longer a Future Partner

Hawaiian Airlines joined oneworld on April 23, 2026. American began treating Hawaiian flights as part of its Alaska partnership one day earlier, on April 22. You can use AAdvantage miles on those eligible flights, including itineraries with other oneworld and partner airlines.

Philippine Airlines was announced as a future oneworld member in June 2026, but it is not yet on American’s current AAdvantage partner list. Do not transfer or buy miles for a Philippine Airlines award until American publishes the booking rules.

Best AAdvantage Sweet Spots in 2026

The best uses of AAdvantage miles are usually partner premium cabins. These are the chart prices worth watching:

  • Japan Airlines Business Class to Japan or Korea: 60,000 miles one-way. First Class is 80,000 miles. Compare those prices with dynamically priced AA flights before booking. Our JAL with AAdvantage guide covers the search process.
  • Qatar Airways Business Class to the Middle East or Indian Subcontinent: 70,000 miles one-way. This is the classic Qsuite redemption from North America. Availability is the hard part, so start with our Qsuite booking guide.
  • Finnair or other partner Business Class to Europe: 57,500 miles one-way. British Airways and Iberia can price at the same mileage level, but American warns that both may add substantial carrier-imposed charges.
  • Partner Business Class to South America Region 2: 57,500 miles one-way. That covers Argentina, Brazil except Manaus, Chile, the Falkland Islands, Paraguay, Uruguay, and Venezuela from the contiguous U.S. or Canada.
  • Fiji Airways to the South Pacific. The partner chart shows starting values of 40,000 miles in Main Cabin and 80,000 in Business / First, but Fiji-operated awards can price dynamically. Treat those numbers as targets and verify the live result instead of assuming a fixed 80,000-mile seat.
  • Short JetSMART awards within South America. These can be unusually inexpensive, but price them live. AA.com permits only JetSMART-operated flights on a JetSMART award itinerary.
  • Low dynamic prices on American. Partner awards are not automatically better. A domestic or international AA flight near the published floor can be excellent, especially when it is nonstop and avoids partner surcharges.

Compare AA and Partner Flights

Search the operating airline, not just the route. A 60,000-mile Japan Airlines Business Class seat and a 300,000-mile American Airlines Business Class seat can appear on nearby dates. In AwardFares, filter by airline and cabin, then sort by miles.

When Does American Airlines Release Award Seats?

American opens its booking calendar 331 days before departure. Its current rules allow award bookings from 331 days until two hours before departure.

That does not mean every award seat appears exactly at midnight 331 days out:

  • American may initially show only high-priced dynamic awards, and the price can later rise or fall.
  • The operating airline controls partner inventory. A partner with a longer calendar can release a seat before American is able to display or ticket it.
  • Some partners release premium seats in batches, close to departure, or not at all on a particular flight.
  • A seat can return when another traveler cancels, so checking only on release day misses plenty of opportunities.

For a broader view of each airline’s window, see our award release dates guide. Set an AwardFares alert instead of checking the same route repeatedly.

How To Book AAdvantage Award Travel on AA.com

American’s website is where you confirm the final mileage price, put an eligible award on hold, and ticket the reservation.

  1. Log in to your AAdvantage account. Your current mileage balance appears after sign-in.
  2. Enter the route and dates. Select one-way or round-trip, then check Redeem miles before searching.
  3. Compare the week strip or open the calendar. The results page shows nearby dates across the top. Open the monthly calendar when your dates are flexible.
  4. Check every segment. Confirm the operating airline, cabin on each flight, connection times, mileage price, and cash fees. A mixed-cabin result may not put the longest flight in the cabin you expect.
  5. Hold or purchase. Eligible awards 7-331 days before departure can normally be held for one day. Closer bookings require instant purchase.

If a partner seat is valid but does not appear online, call American Reservations. The current AAdvantage travel page has the official booking and reinstatement links.

American Airlines Award Calendar: AA.com vs. AwardFares

After running an award search on AA.com, use the date strip above the results to compare a nearby week or select Calendar for a full month. On a round trip, choose the outbound and return dates separately. The total above the calendar combines both directions and the cash fees. You still need to open a result to check the operating airline and cabin on every segment.

The official American Airlines award calendar is the booking source. Its limitation is repetition: comparing several airports, partner airlines, cabins, and date ranges can turn into dozens of separate searches.

How To Find AAdvantage Award Flights With AwardFares

1. Open AwardFares and Choose AAdvantage

Go to AwardFares. An account is optional for a basic search; a free account unlocks more features. Open the program picker and select American AAdvantage.

Selecting AAdvantage in the AwardFares frequent flyer program picker.

2. Enter One or More Routes

Add your departure and arrival airports in the From and To fields. Use a metro area when more than one airport works. For example, keep JFK as the origin if it is fixed, but choose London Area (LON) when Heathrow, Gatwick, London City, Luton, or Stansted could work.

3. Choose Dates and Compare Results

Choose one date for a targeted search, or use Shift and click on desktop to select a date range. If your dates are flexible, leave the date open and use the Timeline View to compare a longer period.

Selecting a travel date for an AAdvantage award search.

The list view is best when you already know the date and want to compare flight times, stops, cabins, prices, and the number of seats available. A Mix marker means the itinerary contains more than one cabin, so inspect the flight details before choosing it.

The Timeline View is better when the date is the variable. Its colored bars show the relative amount of availability by cabin across many days. Select a date to open the matching flights and see their mileage prices.

4. Filter by Cabin, Airline, and Stops

Cabin, airline, stops, passengers, flight number, and aircraft filters remove results that do not fit the trip. Choose Only in the cabin or airline menu when you want a single selection instead of adding it to the current results.

5. Sort by Miles and Set a Maximum Price

Select Eco, Prem, Biz, or First above the results to sort that cabin from the lowest mileage price. This is especially useful for AA’s dynamic awards, where two nearby dates can differ by hundreds of thousands of miles.

Sorting AAdvantage award results by mileage price.

Use the Max Price filter when you already know your ceiling. The value is per passenger. For example, a 75,000-mile maximum can keep the 57,500-mile partner Business Class target to Europe while also showing AA flights near their published starting level.

6. Set an Alert if the Seat Is Missing

If nothing works, save the search as an Alert. Choose the route, date range, cabin, passengers, operating airline, stops, and maximum price you are willing to pay. The editor shows how many Live Alerts the date range will use because each route and date counts separately. See our alert guide for the difference between Live and Flex alerts.

7. Open the Flight on American and Book

Open the result and select the cabin you want. Check the operating airline, aircraft, duration, available seats, mileage price, and estimated tax. Refresh the result if it was checked several minutes ago, then select Book.

AAdvantage Award Booking Rules, Holds, Changes, and Fees

The chart price is only part of an award. These rules can change whether an itinerary is worth booking.

Booking Window and Holds

  • Booking window: 331 days until two hours before departure.
  • One-day hold: Normally available when booking 7-331 days before departure.
  • Instant purchase: Required when booking 1-6 days before departure.
  • Partner awards: Some airlines provide a shorter hold or no useful hold at all.

A hold is useful when you need to coordinate another award, confirm time off, or move miles into place. Do not let it expire while assuming the price or seat will return.

Cancellation and Mileage Reinstatement

American says you can cancel an award on AA.com before the first flight departs and have the miles reinstated, as long as the ticket is still within its one-year validity period. Reinstatement is automatic in many cases.

Contact Reservations when the trip has already started, includes partner travel, or was changed after it was first ticketed. Partly used awards are not eligible for full mileage reinstatement under the current terms.

Taxes and Carrier-Imposed Fees

Taxes and fees on AA awards start at $5.60 per person, per award. The cash amount varies by origin, destination, and partner. British Airways and Iberia awards can add large carrier-imposed charges, so always compare the complete checkout total rather than the miles alone.

Segment and Routing Limits

  • One-way awards within the U.S. and Canada, including Alaska and Hawaii, allow up to three segments.
  • Other one-way awards allow up to four segments.
  • A partner itinerary with two long-haul international flights requires two awards.

Frequently Asked Questions

AAdvantage Award Questions

Does American Airlines have an AAdvantage award chart in 2026?

Yes. American publishes estimated starting values for AA-operated flights and a separate region-based chart for partner flights. AA-operated prices are dynamic, so the live quote may be much higher than the published floor. American also labels partner values as estimated starting values, so verify the complete itinerary on AA.com.

How many AAdvantage miles do you need for a free flight?

AA-operated awards start at 7,500 miles one-way, plus taxes and fees. That is a floor, not the usual price on every route. Partner awards start at 12,500 miles within the contiguous U.S. and Canada, with different prices by region and cabin.

How far in advance does American Airlines release award seats?

American opens its booking calendar 331 days before departure. Awards can be booked until two hours before departure. Partner seats follow the operating airline’s inventory schedule and may appear later.

How do I use the American Airlines award calendar?

On AA.com, select “Redeem miles,” enter your route, and open the flexible-date calendar to compare nearby dates. The AA calendar shows the price American will ticket. For broader searches across many airports, dates, and partners, use the AwardFares Timeline View and then confirm the result on AA.com.

Is the AAdvantage partner award chart fixed?

It is a published, region-based chart and is much more predictable than AA’s dynamic pricing. However, American’s current page calls the figures estimated starting values and some routings require more than one award. Use the chart for planning, then price the exact itinerary.

Can I put an AAdvantage award ticket on hold?

Usually. Eligible bookings made 7-331 days before departure can be held for one day. Bookings 1-6 days before departure require instant purchase, and awards involving some partners may have shorter hold times.

Can I cancel an AAdvantage award and get my miles back?

Yes, if you cancel before the first flight and the ticket is still valid. American says miles are automatically reinstated in many cases. Partner itineraries, changed trips, and tickets that have already been partly used may require Reservations or have different treatment.

How much are taxes on AAdvantage award flights?

They start at $5.60 per person, per award, but vary by route. British Airways and Iberia may add substantial carrier-imposed charges. Check the miles and full cash amount before booking.

How do I book American Airlines award travel?

Log in to AA.com, enter the route and dates, select Redeem miles, and search. Compare the date strip or monthly calendar, choose an itinerary, verify the cabin and fees, then hold or purchase the award.

How do I find AAdvantage partner award availability?

Search the route on AA.com and check the operating-airline details on each result. For a wider date or airport search, select AAdvantage in AwardFares, filter by the partner airline and cabin, then confirm the result on AA.com.

Do AAdvantage miles expire?

Miles expire after 24 months without qualifying earning or redemption activity. Any qualifying activity resets the clock for another 24 months. Members under 21 and primary AAdvantage credit cardholders are exempt while they meet American’s current conditions.

Can I use AAdvantage miles on Hawaiian Airlines?

Yes. Hawaiian joined oneworld on April 23, 2026. American began treating Hawaiian flights as part of its Alaska partnership one day earlier, on April 22. Those flights can be booked with AAdvantage miles when award space is available.

Can I use AAdvantage miles on JetSMART?

Yes. JetSMART awards can be booked on AA.com and JetSMART.com. On AA.com, the itinerary must contain only JetSMART flights; it cannot be combined with another airline on the same award.
