Booking flights with points gets harder when the whole family is traveling. You need seats for everyone on the same flight. With dynamic pricing, searching for four people instead of one can raise the price for everyone.
We’ve covered many family benefits that help you earn points or pool them across accounts. That makes it easier to collect enough for a trip.
Atmos helps with the cost, too. Its Families on the Go Community offers 20% points back on eligible award tickets for children aged 12 or younger. You need the full amount to book, but get some points back to use again.
Our AwardFares search for Seattle to Honolulu shows Economy seats at 15,000 Atmos points per person, one way. For two adults and two eligible children, that’s 60,000 points upfront and potentially 6,000 back. We also found the same flight through AAdvantage, so we can compare the cost.
Families on the Go is one of six Communities available since October 1, 2026.
Six Communities to Choose From
Joining is free and optional. Sign in to your Atmos Rewards account and look for Join a Community. Alaska allows a Community change once per calendar year, so choose based on the trips you expect to take. The official fact sheet lists these options:
| Community | Focus and Distinctive Benefits |
|---|---|
| Families on the Go | Travel with young children; 20% points back on eligible children’s awards. |
| Global Locals | International travel; 10% bonus status points on eligible international travel and one status point per 25 Atmos points transferred from eligible loyalty partners. |
| Active Escapes | Outdoor and adventure travel offers. |
| Culinary Journeys | Food-focused travel offers. |
| Club 49 | Alaska residents; benefits include free checked bags. |
| Huakaʻi by Hawaiian | Hawaii residents; free-bag benefits and, from January 1, 2027, a 50% points and status-points bonus for Neighbor Island travel. |
All six include flight deals, partner offers, a destination challenge, and 20% off community-specific Atmos Unlocked experiences. Club 49 and Huakaʻi have residency requirements.
Global Locals’ bonus earns status points, which help with elite qualification. The family rebate returns redeemable points, which can pay for another award. Those benefits serve different purposes.
Example: Finding Four Seats from Seattle to Honolulu
Our Seattle–Honolulu search has Economy, four passengers, and nonstop flights selected. Timeline View shows Economy availability across many dates, giving a family several departures to compare.

Sorting the results by Economy price brings up several flights at 15,000 points, each reporting nine Economy award seats. The listed prices are per person, even with four passengers selected.

A Family of Four: 60,000 Points Upfront
Using that 15,000-point price, here’s the calculation for two adults and two children aged 12 or younger, assuming both children’s tickets qualify:
| Travelers | Points Needed to Book | Expected Points Back | Net Points Cost |
|---|---|---|---|
| Two adults | 30,000 | 0 | 30,000 |
| Two eligible children | 30,000 | 6,000 | 24,000 |
| Whole family | 60,000 | 6,000 | 54,000 |
The children’s 20% rebate reduces this family’s total points cost by 10%. It does not reduce the adults’ awards, and taxes and fees still need to be added.
You still need 60,000 points available to book. The 54,000-point figure is the cost after the potential rebate, not a price you’ll see in AwardFares or a discounted amount to pay at checkout.
Before relying on the rebate, check Alaska’s Families on the Go eligibility and crediting terms for your booking. The public fact sheet establishes the 20% benefit and age limit; it does not spell out all airline, account, or posting conditions.
The Same Flights Through Atmos and AAdvantage
Adding AAdvantage to the same search shows different prices for the same nonstop flights:
| Flight Shown | Atmos Points per Person | AAdvantage Miles per Person |
|---|---|---|
| AS121 | 20,000 | 24,000 |
| AS941 | 15,000 | 22,500 |
| AS821 | 25,000 | 28,000 |
All three Economy comparisons show nine reported seats through Atmos and four through AAdvantage. These prices apply to the departures pictured; refresh your own dates before booking.

For AS941, four seats would require 90,000 AAdvantage miles, compared with 60,000 Atmos points upfront, potentially falling to a net 54,000 after the children’s rebate. The Atmos price is lower even before applying the benefit.
Atmos points and AAdvantage miles are different currencies. Consider the balances you hold, taxes and fees, and each program’s change and cancellation rules alongside the totals. The Atmos Community rebate does not apply to a booking paid for with AAdvantage miles.
Gold and Diamond include live searches and let you compare multiple supported programs at once, as in the screenshot. Refresh the dates that work for your family, then confirm the full group price and availability with the booking program. A reported seat count is not a reservation.
If suitable flights are missing, set an Alert with your cabin, passenger count, and maximum pre-rebate points price. Our Atmos sweet spots guide has more routes to consider.
