American Airlines' New 777 Flagship Suites and 2027 Routes

American Airlines is introducing Flagship Suites on the Boeing 777-300ER, starting with a flight from New York to Buenos Aires on September 2, 2026. Its 777 announcement also confirms the plan to stop selling Flagship First.

There are new routes for 2027, too, along with plans for seatback screens and a change to the free Main Cabin snacks. The new seats and routes are what I’d start with when planning a trip with miles. The screens will take longer to reach the rest of the fleet.

Inside American’s New Boeing 777 Flagship Suites

The new suites have privacy doors and more storage. American is also adding Premium Economy seats and removing the separate First Class cabin.

Compared with the previous 777 layout, there will be more seats in both Business Class and Premium Economy:

On my Flagship First flight from Buenos Aires to New York, I sat in 1A. I liked the space, bedding, and attentive service, but the seat and entertainment screen felt dated. There was also no privacy door.

I flew Business Class on the return to Buenos Aires, where the bed was comfortable but the service was much less attentive. Both reviews cover the previous 777 cabins. The new suite photos above come from American.

When Does Flagship First End?

American will no longer offer Flagship First on tickets for travel from:

• November 19, 2026, on the Boeing 777-300ER.
• March 28, 2027, on transcontinental routes.

For the new suites, choose Business Class in AwardFares, not First Class. Open the JFK to Buenos Aires search to compare dates and prices. You can start with all cabins, as in the Timeline below, then narrow the results to Business Class.

Sorting by Business Class price puts connections through Miami first in this example. The lowest price shown is 114,000 miles, but the first itinerary has a connection of more than 14 hours. If you want the direct JFK flight, select nonstop before comparing prices.

These itineraries connect through Miami and include a Boeing 777-300ER segment. Check its seat map to see whether it has the new suites.

How to Spot a Retrofitted 777 in AwardFares Seat Maps

The aircraft name alone will not tell you whether an American Airlines 777-300ER has the new Flagship Suites. Open AwardFares Seat Maps, enter your route, date, and flight number, then compare the Business and First cabin maps:

• Retrofitted aircraft: Look for the larger layout with 70 Business Class seats. For now, AwardFares shows this same layout with either Business or First selected. There is no separate First Class cabin.
• Aircraft with the older cabin: First and Business still show different layouts. First has eight seats, while Business has 52 seats and fewer rows than the new configuration.

Premium Economy provides another check: the refurbished aircraft has 44 seats, compared with 28 in the older layout.

Check the screenshot below of the initial flight AA953 from JFK to Buenos Aires on September 2, 2026, which shows the difference to look for. With Business selected, the new map has 70 seats and extends from row 1 to row 19.

Switch to First for the same flight and the layout stays identical, as shown below. Together with the seat count and extra rows, this helps you spot the refurbished aircraft. To find awards in these suites, keep using Business Class in the award search.

Use the map to identify the cabin and the search results to check award availability. An empty seat on the map can still be unavailable with miles.

American Airlines’ New Routes for 2027

American’s 2027 route announcement includes seven new international routes and an extra daily flight to London. Tickets went on sale on August 31, 2026, and all the services below are planned to operate daily.

Each route opens an AwardFares search with American Airlines and AAdvantage selected. Add dates from the start of service onward and choose nonstop flights.

Vienna is planned to continue through early January 2028, so it is also worth considering for a winter trip.

Four More A321XLR Routes to Europe

For the A321XLR, start with Amsterdam, Nice, Porto, and Vienna. American’s A321XLR cabin has 20 Flagship Suites with flat beds and direct aisle access. Behind them are 12 Premium Economy recliners. All cabins already have seatback entertainment with Bluetooth.

We first covered the cabin with American’s Edinburgh announcement. These additions give you four more routes to search for it.

Reykjavik uses a different A321. It is scheduled for the A321neo, with American’s regular First Class cabin, rather than the XLR’s suites and separate Premium Economy cabin.

The extra London flight is planned for the 787 with Flagship Suites. As with the 777, American has more than one 787 cabin layout, so the seat map is worth a look.

Search for Two Business Class Seats to Vienna

For a trip for two to Vienna, I’d start with a few possible departure dates. Open the Philadelphia to Vienna search and try May 6 to 28, 2027, the period shown below. Set two passengers, Business Class, and nonstop flights.

Timeline View makes it easier to compare those days. The first view can include results from earlier searches, so refresh the dates you can travel to get current availability. Then compare the mileage prices in the list. If you know how many miles you want to spend, add that as your maximum price.

The list shows why I would check the price before choosing a date. These results list four Business Class seats at 310,000 AAdvantage miles per person on several departures. There are seats available in this example, but I would set an Alert for a lower price before spending that many miles.

The aircraft label here says A321neo, while American’s route announcement specifies the A321XLR. For the cabin you want, check for the layout with 20 Flagship Suites and 12 Premium Economy seats rather than relying on that label alone.

American changes its award prices by flight and day. Our AAdvantage award chart guide explains the starting prices and the difference between American flights and partner awards.

If you have Atmos Rewards or Qantas Points as well, add that program and compare the same American flight. The price can be different, and a flight available through AAdvantage may be missing from the partner results. Keep the same dates, cabin, and two passenger setting so you are comparing trips that work for both travelers.

Once you find a flight you want, confirm the miles, taxes, cabin, and booking conditions with the program you will use before transferring points or paying. Aircraft assignments can change before departure.

Track Two Seats Within Your Budget

Seatback Screens on New Aircraft From 2028

American’s cabin upgrade announcement says new Airbus and Boeing deliveries will have seatback screens from 2028. The airline will also add screens to its existing single aisle aircraft, with the project expected to finish in the early 2030s.

The planned features include 4K displays, Bluetooth audio, and USB C fast charging. American also plans to start installing Starlink WiFi on its single aisle aircraft in 2027, separately from the screen rollout.

More First Class and Main Cabin Extra Seats

American wants premium cabins and Main Cabin Extra to account for about 40% of seats on its single aisle flights, up from about 25% today.

The changes include an extra First Class row on A319s and A320s, 24 First Class seats on future 737 MAX 10 deliveries, and additional First Class seating on A321neos.

Main Cabin Extra can be quite different depending on the aircraft. On my 787 flight from Miami to Los Angeles, I got an international Premium Economy seat sold as Main Cabin Extra. That was a widebody aircraft. On American’s single aisle planes, Main Cabin Extra is an Economy seat with more legroom.

New Free Main Cabin Snacks From October

The new snack selection starts on select flights in early October 2026:

• Morning service will include Biscoff cookies and Goldfish.
• Later service will offer Goldfish, Tate’s Bake Shop chocolate chip cookies, and Peterson’s savory and sweet snack mix.

American plans to rotate the selection and add more choices in 2027. Biscoff stays on the morning service.
