point.me Alternative: AwardFares vs. point.me in 2026

When I search for an award flight, I usually know how to transfer the points. What I need is a better way to find the right seat: more dates, more airports, several loyalty programs, and an alert if nothing works today. That is why I use AwardFares.

point.me solves a different problem. It helps you decide whether to book with miles, cash, or a card portal, recommends possible transfers, and walks you through the booking. If you would rather hand the job to someone else, its Concierge team can do that for an extra fee.

AwardFares is my point.me alternative when I want to control the search myself. It lets me compare programs, open up the dates and airports, monitor the trip, and keep working with the flights I find. point.me covers transfer instructions and paid human booking help that AwardFares does not. I confirm the result and book directly with the loyalty program.

What AwardFares Does

AwardFares Search is built for direct award availability research. I can include several dates, airports, metro areas, and supported loyalty programs, then compare the flights that come back. A result can show the itinerary, aircraft, cabin, mileage price, taxes when supported, seat quantity when available, the program used to book, and how fresh the data is.

When the same flight appears through more than one program, AwardFares keeps those booking options together. That matters when I hold transferable points and need to know whether the same seat costs less through one partner than another.

From there, I use:

• Timeline View puts several dates side by side when the route is known but the day is flexible.
• Broad Search scans recently collected results by country, continent, or award zone. It is a discovery surface, not a new live search across an entire region.

• Journey Planner saves, arranges, and shares possible flight segments.

What point.me Does

point.me launched publicly in February 2022. It is more than a search box. Search, Explore, wallet, Price Alerts, booking instructions, and Concierge solve different parts of a redemption.

Search

Search checks award flights for a route and date. Paid plans add full live Search, advanced filters, a calendar covering 365 days, and detailed instructions that explain how to transfer points and complete the booking with the airline.

point.me also places the award option beside cash and credit card portal prices. Its wallet can use entered balances and, on supported paid connections, synchronized card balances to make transfer recommendations more relevant.

Explore

Explore starts with a departure city and shows recently found fares by destination and date. Its map and calendar can help when the destination or dates are open. Explore currently covers point.me’s 30 most popular departure airports in the United States, popular destinations, and dates up to 360 days ahead. Choosing a route leads into a specific flight search. An Explore fare is a starting point, not a new live search.

Wallet and Transfer Guidance

The wallet helps answer a different question from availability: which balances can fund this redemption? You can enter loyalty balances manually or synchronize supported Amex, Chase, and Citi accounts. Search recommendations can then compare a transfer with paying cash or using a card portal.

Price Alerts

point.me Price Alerts monitor a searched route and email you after a meaningful drop from the price first seen. Checks are adaptive and run largely daily. This is different from monitoring a saved search specifically for newly available seats.

Booking Instructions and Concierge

Booking instructions sit behind a paid plan. They explain the transfer and airline booking steps. The traveler still completes the booking.

The human Concierge service is separate. Full service flight booking starts at $200 per passenger, with higher or custom pricing possible for complex work. Premium includes a consultation, a credit, and a discount toward Concierge services. It is not unlimited human booking bundled into the subscription.

point.me covers more than 30 loyalty programs and more than 150 airlines. Those are different measurements. One loyalty program can expose awards on many partner airlines. The useful comparison is whether a tool supports the program you can book through, not which one publishes the largest airline number.

The Flight Exists, but You Have More Than One Way to Book It

point.me is especially helpful when you have transferable card points but do not know the airline programs well. Search can show a transfer option beside a cash fare and portal price. The booking guide then explains how to create or use the loyalty account, move the points, and book with the airline.

That guidance can prevent a common mistake: transferring to the most familiar airline before comparing its partners. Transfers are often irreversible, so clarity at this stage has real value.

Flight Details keeps the itinerary and its different booking options together before I choose a program.

You Know the Trip, but the Dates or Destination Can Move

point.me Explore works well when you know where you are leaving from but not where you want to go. You can choose an origin, region, and range of dates, filter the map, inspect a destination’s price calendar, and continue into Search. Free Explore access is useful for ideas, although some prices are samples rather than a live booking check.

Timeline View answers the practical question I ask most often: what changes if I move the trip by a day or two?

Nothing Works Today

point.me Price Alerts begin with a route the traveler has searched. The service tracks the price and emails after a meaningful drop from the starting point. Standard Monthly includes one tracked route, Standard Annual three, and Premium five.

That is useful when an available itinerary costs too much. It is a different job from monitoring a saved search for a newly released seat at any acceptable price.

A Live Alert email carries the flight details back into Search.

A Result Has to Become a Complete Trip

After Search, point.me can guide a subscriber through the transfer and airline booking. A traveler who wants someone else to do the work can request Concierge service, including help with complex itineraries. AwardFares has no equivalent human service.

Journey Planner organizes the flights I am considering. It is a plan, not a reservation.

Seat Maps add cabin context after Search. They do not replace the award availability result.

How Richard Used AwardFares to Find Two Lufthansa First Class Seats

I have used award availability tools since 2010, and I use AwardFares for my own travel. This Lufthansa redemption belongs to my colleague Richard, and it explains the difference between finding the seats and completing the booking.

Before SAS left Star Alliance, Richard wanted one more Lufthansa First Class trip. The cabin was available on only a small number of routes, and partner space was difficult to find. He used AwardFares to look across Lufthansa First Class routes instead of repeating the same search for every airport and date.

AwardFares showed two First Class seats from Munich to Boston. Because Lufthansa partner availability still needed confirmation, Richard called SAS EuroBonus. • Diamond costs $19.99 per month or $199 per year. It includes unlimited Live Searches and Flex Alerts, subject to limits intended to prevent abuse, plus 500 Live Alerts, five programs per simultaneous search, Journey Planner, Flight Schedules, and 200 Seat Map lookups per month.

• Standard Annual costs $129 per year. It adds a calendar covering 365 days, connected wallet access, advanced filters, booking instructions, and three Price Alerts.
• Premium costs $260 per year. It includes Standard Annual features, five Price Alerts, a points strategy consultation, a $100 Concierge credit, and a 10% Concierge discount.

Which One Should You Use?

I put AwardFares first when the trip will take more than one search: flexible dates, several airports, more than one supported program, an alert while I wait, or a plan with several flights. I can keep working on the same trip instead of starting again after the first result.

point.me covers transfer decisions and booking steps that AwardFares does not. Its wallet, cash and portal comparisons, transfer recommendations, instructions, and optional human Concierge extend beyond the flight search itself.

I would still use AwardFares for the search and monitoring. If I needed transfer instructions for that booking, point.me could cover that separate step.
