Virgin Atlantic Flying Club Guide 2026: Points & Awards

Virgin Atlantic Flying Club has changed more in the past two years than in the previous decade. Since October 30, 2024, every seat on a Virgin Atlantic flight can be booked with points, prices move with demand, and the old promise of 12 fixed-price reward seats per flight is gone. In exchange came Saver reward seats: the lowest-priced awards start at 6,000 points one way between London and New York, while Virgin also publishes maximum Saver prices by region and season. Then June 2025 brought a steep round of surcharge increases, and partner redemptions on ANA and Delta became more expensive.

This guide covers current award pricing, partner charts, redemptions that still offer good value after the price increases, elite status, the new High Five bonus, and how to find Saver reward seats with AwardFares.

What is Virgin Atlantic Flying Club?

Virgin Atlantic Flying Club is the loyalty program of Virgin Atlantic. Membership is free, the currency is Virgin Points, and, unlike many airline programs, your points never expire while your account stays open and in good standing.

Virgin Atlantic joined SkyTeam on March 2, 2023, which changed the program’s reach considerably. Your Virgin Points can now be redeemed across the alliance (Delta, Air France, KLM, and the rest of the SkyTeam network), and Flying Club elite status is recognized alliance-wide: Silver maps to SkyTeam Elite, Gold to SkyTeam Elite Plus. The long-running Delta partnership did not go away; it continues inside SkyTeam alongside the transatlantic joint venture with Delta, Air France, and KLM.

On top of the alliance, Flying Club keeps a handful of non-alliance redemption partners. The most famous by far is ANA (All Nippon Airways), whose first and business class awards remain some of the best uses of Virgin Points anywhere, even after the recent price increases (more on that below).

Flying Club vs Virgin Red: What’s the Difference?

When you join Flying Club, you are also enrolled in Virgin Red, the Virgin Group’s wider rewards club. Linked accounts share a single Virgin Points balance, so the points you earn from flights, credit cards, or shopping can be spent either on award flights through Flying Club or on Virgin Group rewards through Virgin Red (experiences, Virgin Voyages, and so on).

In practice: Flying Club is where flights, elite status, and Tier Points live; Virgin Red is the spending catalog wrapped around the same points balance. For award travel, which is where the value is, this guide is about the Flying Club side. If you are in the US, note that the Virgin Red Rewards Mastercard earns the same Virgin Points.

What’s New With Flying Club in 2026?

A lot has happened since this guide was first published. Here is the short version, newest first:

• High Five loyalty bonus (January 2026): Members who take a Virgin Atlantic-operated and -marketed flight in any five calendar years since January 1, 2021 receive 12,000 Virgin Points, and the bonus repeats for each additional five flying years. Red members also earn 10% bonus points on future qualifying flights. Partner and codeshare flights do not count.
• Surcharge and fee increases (June 2025): Carrier-imposed fees on US-UK one-way redemptions jumped to $111 in Economy, $240 in Premium, and up to $586 in Upper Class, and the change/cancellation fee doubled from $50 to $100 per person. See the surcharges section for the full table.
• Award sale season (May 2025): Virgin ran a broad award sale on points redemptions. Sales like this one are the moments when dynamic pricing works in your favor, so they are worth watching for.
• Saver reward seats (October 30, 2024): Virgin’s lowest-priced awards, available across thousands of flights. London to New York starts at 6,000 points one way in Economy; Virgin’s maximum Saver prices for the US Northeast are 10,000 points in the standard season and 20,000 in the peak season. • Dynamic pricing (October 30, 2024): Every seat on Virgin Atlantic-operated flights became bookable with points, at prices that move with demand. The guarantee of 12 fixed-price reward seats per flight (2 Upper Class, 2 Premium, 8 Economy) was scrapped. Here is what changed.
• Delta and ANA partner devaluations (2023-2024): Two of Flying Club’s most popular partner redemptions became more expensive, ANA without any notice. The partner charts section has the current numbers.

The Virgin Atlantic Award Chart in 2026 (Dynamic and Saver Pricing)

Virgin Atlantic no longer publishes a fixed award chart for its own flights. Since October 30, 2024, awards on Virgin Atlantic metal are dynamically priced: every seat can be bought with points, and the price tracks demand, roughly the way cash fares do.

The counterweight is the Saver reward seat: Virgin’s lowest-priced award, available across thousands of flights. There is no guaranteed number of Saver seats per flight, so when they are gone, dynamic prices can be several times higher.

Here are the lowest Saver prices Virgin published for popular routes at the October 2024 launch. They are starting prices, not guaranteed prices for every flight:

Saver prices are also seasonal. Virgin publishes maximum Saver prices by region for standard and peak travel dates:

The route examples are one-way starting prices published at launch. The regional table shows maximum Saver prices for standard and peak seasons. All prices exclude taxes and carrier surcharges. When Saver seats are unavailable, dynamically priced seats can cost more. Always check live prices before transferring points.

The practical consequence of dynamic pricing: the date you pick matters more than the route you pick. Two flights on the same route a day apart can differ by tens of thousands of points. Flying Club Partner Award Charts: ANA, Delta, and More

Partner awards work differently: they still follow charts, although Virgin has shown it can change those charts without warning. Here is where the two most popular partners stand in 2026.

ANA with Virgin Points: Still a Sweet Spot, After Two Devaluations

Booking ANA first and business class is one of Flying Club’s best-known partner redemptions. It has been devalued twice: first class went up by as much as 42% in 2023 (a West Coast to Tokyo round trip rose from 110,000 to 145,000 points), and business class was raised without notice on May 23, 2024 (Japan to the Central/Eastern USA went from 47,500 to 60,000 points one way).

Even so, the current chart is still strong. One-way prices between the USA and Japan:

At 72,500 points one way in first class from the West Coast, this still costs fewer points than many comparable first class awards, and the business class prices undercut most Star Alliance programs for the same seats. Availability is very limited: ANA releases few first class award seats, which is why alerts matter more than the chart here.

Delta with Virgin Points: Check the Total Cost

You can book Delta-operated flights with Virgin Points, but two devaluations changed the math:

• January 1, 2024: The partner chart for “everywhere else” (which covers most US domestic itineraries) went up 40-60%.
• July 2, 2024: Delta One between the US and Europe went from a flat 50,000 points with about $5.60 in fees to 47,500-77,500 points plus $1,000 or more in carrier surcharges one way. The higher cash cost removed most of the value on these routes.

Short domestic Delta flights can still have reasonable points prices and small cash surcharges. For transatlantic Delta One, calculate the total before transferring anything; in most cases, a Saver Upper Class seat on a Virgin Atlantic flight or another program will cost less.

SkyTeam and Other Partners

Beyond ANA and Delta, Virgin Points book award seats across SkyTeam, including Air France and KLM, plus Virgin’s other long-standing partners. Pricing varies by partner and route, and surcharges follow the operating carrier’s pattern, so the same habit applies: compare the points price and the cash total side by side before committing. Flying Club Redemptions We Would Check First

With the old chart gone and two partners devalued, these are the redemptions we would check first:

1. Saver Economy across the Atlantic from 6,000 points. London to New York at 6,000 points plus £35 one way is one of the lowest-priced transatlantic awards. The 7,500-point Orlando and Miami starting prices can also offer good value during school holidays, when cash fares are often high. Search London to New York or Manchester to Orlando to see live availability.
2. Saver Upper Class from around 29,000 points. Virgin launched these awards from 28,500 points between London and New York, Miami, or Orlando; its current examples round that starting price to 29,000 points. This is a low points price for transatlantic business class, but check the surcharges before booking.
3. ANA first class from 72,500 points one way (US West Coast to Japan). Despite the devaluation, this can still offer good value. Business class starts at 52,500 points on the same routes and usually has more availability. See the chart above.
4. London to Barbados. This is a favorite among UK holidaymakers and a route where cash fares can rise sharply in winter. Check availability on LHR-BGI.
5. Long-haul leisure routes: Johannesburg and Mumbai. Virgin’s LHR-JNB and LHR-BOM flights are solid uses of points on dates when Saver seats appear, especially in Premium.
6. The A330neo Retreat Suite. Virgin’s best seat, bookable with points like everything else under the new model. We looked at where the A330neo flies in our Washington to London route coverage.

A note on routes you may remember: Virgin Atlantic no longer flies to Shanghai (suspended in October 2024) or Hong Kong (dropped in 2022), so Flying Club is not the tool for nonstop UK-Asia awards beyond its partners.

Virgin Atlantic has long charged high carrier-imposed surcharges on award tickets, and June 2025 increased them further. Here is what changed on US-UK one-way redemptions:

On top of that, the change and cancellation fee doubled from $50 to $100 per person. And as covered above, Delta One redemptions to Europe now carry $1,000 or more in surcharges one way.

The lesson: a low points price is only half the story. An Upper Class Saver seat around 29,000 points with $586 in fees can still be a good deal against a $4,000 cash fare; an Economy award with high round-trip fees against a $450 cash fare may not be. Compare the full cost every time.

How to Earn Virgin Points

Flying is only one way in, and for most non-UK readers it is not even the main one.

US Credit Card Transfer Partners

US-based travelers can transfer several major rewards currencies to Flying Club at 1:1.

This breadth means Virgin Points are easy to top up on demand: find the award seat first, then transfer exactly what you need. Never transfer speculatively; dynamic pricing and no-notice partner changes make orphaned points expensive.

Flying and Other Ways to Earn

• Virgin Atlantic and partner flights: Points earning scales with fare and cabin, and elite members earn a bonus on Virgin Atlantic and SkyTeam flights (30% at Silver, 60% at Gold).
• Virgin Red: Everyday earning through the Virgin Group ecosystem and shopping partners, plus the US Virgin Red Rewards Mastercard.
• UK credit cards: The Virgin Atlantic Reward credit cards (issued by Virgin Money) earn Virgin Points on everyday spend and can earn companion and upgrade vouchers.
• Buying points: Virgin periodically runs buy-points promotions. As with any program, buying only makes sense against a specific redemption you have already found.

Flying Club Elite Status: Red, Silver, Gold

Flying Club has three published tiers, driven by Tier Points earned on flights:

Two things worth calling out:

• Status benefits extend across SkyTeam. Silver gets SkyTeam Elite benefits such as priority check-in, boarding, and baggage across the alliance. Gold’s Elite Plus status adds lounge access throughout SkyTeam, not only at Virgin Clubhouses.
• Upgrades are not a published tier benefit. Unlike some US programs, Flying Club status does not include complimentary upgrades; you need to use points or a reward voucher.

High Five: 12,000 Points for Loyalty Over Time

Launched in January 2026, High Five rewards members who take a Virgin Atlantic-operated and -marketed flight in any five calendar years since January 1, 2021. Virgin deposits a 12,000-point bonus, and each additional five qualifying flying years triggers another bonus. Red members also receive 10% bonus points on future qualifying flights. Partner and codeshare flights do not count.

There is nothing to register for; qualifying members are credited automatically. If you have flown Virgin Atlantic in several years since 2021, check your account or the Virgin Atlantic app. The 12,000-point bonus can cover a London-New York Economy Saver round trip at the lowest published price, before fees.

When Does Virgin Atlantic Release Award Seats?

Virgin Atlantic opens its booking window, and with it award availability, about 331 days before departure. A few practical notes:

• Saver seats can appear at release and later. There is no guaranteed count per flight, and more Saver space may open closer to departure.
• Seasonality affects the maximum Saver price. The standard and peak tables above show different caps depending on the travel date.
• Partner space follows the partner’s own release schedule, not Virgin’s, which matters especially for ANA first class.

The release date is the earliest an award might appear, not a guarantee. If your dates are fixed, set an alert around the 331-day mark. If you are flexible, Saver prices are often lower outside peak travel periods.

Step-by-Step: How To Find Flying Club Award Flights with AwardFares

6. Filter Saver vs Non-Saver Seats

This is an important step under the new pricing model. AwardFares lets you filter Saver versus non-Saver reward seats, so you can hide higher dynamic prices and focus on the lowest-priced Saver awards.

7. Set an Alert

Why Virgin’s Reward Seat Checker Isn’t Enough

Virgin Atlantic offers its own reward seat checker, and it is fine for what it is: a way to browse reward availability for one route at a time on virginatlantic.com. The limitations show up as soon as you search the way award travelers actually search:

The same Virgin Atlantic seat can often be booked through Flying Club, Flying Blue, or Delta SkyMiles at different prices and different surcharge levels. Searching one program’s website tells you what that program charges; searching across programs tells you what other programs charge for the same seat.

Flying Club Booking Rules and Policies

The fine print that actually affects bookings:

• Points expiry: Virgin Points do not expire while your account remains open and in good standing. Virgin’s own wording is “points that never expire.” This is a genuine advantage over programs with inactivity clocks.
• Changes and cancellations: $100 per person since June 2025 (up from $50). Factor this in before booking speculative dates.
• Vouchers under dynamic pricing: Companion and upgrade vouchers can be applied to any seat in any cabin, but their value is capped: up to 75,000 points for Red members and up to 150,000 points for Silver and Gold. If the seat prices above the cap, you top up the difference in points.
• Points and Money: Virgin offers part-points, part-cash pricing on many awards. The exchange rate on the cash top-up is usually poor value, so compare it with the full points price and the full cash fare before booking.
• Booking partners: Partner awards (ANA, Delta, SkyTeam) are booked through Flying Club online or by phone depending on the partner, at the partner chart prices covered above, plus the operating carrier’s taxes and surcharges.

Flying Club works differently in 2026: low prices are still available, including 6,000-point transatlantic Economy seats, Upper Class from around 29,000 points, and ANA first class, but availability is limited and prices change with demand.
