If you want a Seats.aero alternative that connects award search, flexible dates and airports, alerts, Seat Maps, and trip planning, AwardFares is my first choice. It is the workflow I use to compare supported loyalty programs and mileage prices, monitor difficult trips, and organize the flights I find.
Both products combine live checks with results collected earlier. Seats.aero uses collected data in Explore and most Search results, with live Search for supported programs and narrower queries on Pro. AwardFares uses recently collected data in Broad Search and active multi-program Search on paid tiers, then adds Live and Flex Alerts, Journey Planner, Seat Maps, and Flight Schedules.
The useful question is therefore not simply which tool is “live.” It is which search surface fits the task, which loyalty programs it supports, and what you need to do after finding a result.
AwardFares vs. Seats.aero: The Short Answer
- AwardFares connects search, monitoring, and planning: Multi-program Search, flexible dates and airports, Live and Flex Alerts, Journey Planner, Seat Maps, and Flight Schedules work together in one product.
- Seats.aero has three relevant surfaces: Explore and most Search results use data collected earlier, while Pro can run live Search for supported programs when the query is narrow enough.
- Both products mix current and collected information: Check the label or timestamp for the result you are viewing because availability can change after it was collected or searched.
- The tools can complement each other: Seats.aero’s previously collected results can be useful for broad route discovery, while AwardFares puts current multi-program comparison, monitoring, and planning in one workflow.

What AwardFares Does
AwardFares award flight search can search multiple supported loyalty programs, dates, airports, and metro areas. A current result can show the itinerary, cabin, mileage price, taxes when supported, seat quantity when available, and the program through which the flight can be booked. This is especially useful when the same flight appears through several programs at different prices.
The same flight can have different mileage prices through different loyalty programs, so Search keeps the booking options together for comparison.
Search is only one part of the product:
- Timeline View places availability across multiple dates side by side. See the Timeline View guide for how current and previously collected entries are presented.
- Broad Search scans recently collected results by country, continent, or award zone. It is a discovery surface, not a new live query across an entire region.
- Live Alerts and Flex Alerts monitor specific or broader trip conditions in different ways.
- Journey Planner saves, arranges, and shares flights across multiple segments.
- Seat Maps add seat-assignment and cabin context to a flight.
- Flight Schedules show operating schedules, aircraft information, and booking-code availability where supported.
AwardFares currently lists 17 searchable loyalty programs, including Delta SkyMiles and Qantas Frequent Flyer. Because support changes, check the live program list rather than relying on an old comparison count. AwardFares does not claim to support the most programs.
Basic is a limited preview of existing availability. It does not run live Search and does not include Alerts, Journey Planner, or Flight Schedules. Gold and Diamond add live Search and the advanced workflow, with different limits listed on the current pricing page.
What Seats.aero Does
Seats.aero is an award availability search and alert service with more than one way to find flights.
Explore
Explore is the broad discovery surface. It displays award data that Seats.aero collected earlier across the routes tracked for each mileage program. This makes it possible to scan many routes and dates quickly. It also means a route can be missing because it is not in the collected coverage, and a result can change after it was collected.
Live Search is not available in Explore.
Cached Search
Seats.aero calls these results “cached data” and says they power most Search results. Its Cached Search is limited to the routes on each program’s Routes page. Search can filter results by program or alliance, and Seats.aero’s pages are organized around the supported program and source. It is therefore incorrect to describe every result as one program-agnostic number.
Seat quantities require some care. Seats.aero can display quantities when the source provides them, but its help center says some airlines only report general cabin availability. In those cases, a result may not prove that the full passenger count is bookable.
Live Search on Pro
For some supported loyalty programs, Pro members can run a user-triggered live Search against the program’s current award inventory. Seats.aero says this option works only in Search, not Explore, and may require a narrower query. Supported live searches can return connecting itineraries that do not appear in route-limited collected results.
That distinction matters: Pro includes live Search, but not every Pro result is live.
Seats.aero also documents alerts, multiple-airport and city searches, custom airport groups, availability history, Seat Maps, specialist tools, and iOS and Android apps. Round-trip and multicity searches are currently handled as separate one-way searches.

How the Workflows Differ
1. Discovering a Flexible Trip
Seats.aero Explore is designed for a question such as “Where can I go with these miles?” It can cover a large collected route set without waiting for a new query for every combination. The result is useful for discovery, but its timestamp, tracked route coverage, and program still matter.
Seats.aero Search also supports multiple airports, city codes, and custom airport groups. Current public documentation says users can add several airports and use grouped codes in Search and Alerts.
How AwardFares Handles the Same Task
In AwardFares, I start with Search when I know the likely airports and programs. I can include multiple dates, airports, and metro areas, then compare the resulting flights and prices. Timeline View helps when the route is known but the date is flexible.
If the destination is still open, Broad Search lets me scan recently collected results by country, continent, or award zone. When I find a promising option, I move back to an active Search rather than treating the broad discovery result as a current booking check.

2. Checking a Specific Flight and Loyalty Program
Seats.aero’s Search can quickly show previously collected availability on tracked routes. Pro live Search can run a current query when the loyalty program supports it and the request is narrow enough. Program and alliance filters help identify the relevant source, and connecting itineraries may appear in supported live searches.
Results can still differ from an airline website because availability changes, passenger count matters, elite members or cardholders may see expanded inventory, pricing can be dynamic, and partners may not receive the same seats.

3. Monitoring Availability With Alerts
Seats.aero documents one-off alerts and continuous alerts for Pro. Alerts can include a route, date or date range, cabin, mileage programs, and filters. Notifications can arrive by email, mobile-app push, and SMS for Pro where supported. They use the same award data shown in Seats.aero Search, so their coverage and limitations follow the underlying sources.
The Free help page currently allows up to five active alerts. Pro lists unlimited alerts, advanced filters, upgrade alerts, and faster or more frequent refreshes. An alert does not reserve a seat.
How AwardFares Handles the Same Task
AwardFares Alerts separate two monitoring jobs:
- Live Alerts run a scheduled search for specific routes and dates. One alert can include multiple airports and date ranges.
- Flex Alerts monitor broader criteria, including flexible dates or regions, using availability found across AwardFares.
Flex Alerts can surface matching ideas without a scheduled live query for every possible route. They do not promise to discover every flight. When an alert arrives, refresh the search. The complete Alerts guide covers the setup and current behavior.

Live Alert emails use the same flight cards and cabin colors as Search, making a new match easier to review before refreshing it.
4. Turning Results Into a Trip
Seats.aero currently supports one-way Search. A return or multicity trip requires separate searches and alerts for each leg. That can be perfectly adequate when the goal is finding one flight at a time.
Seat Maps add cabin and seat-assignment context, but no Seat Map can prove award inventory, the number of unsold seats, or how full a flight truly is. An unassigned seat may be blocked, held, or simply not selected yet.
How AwardFares Handles the Same Task
Journey Planner lets me save and arrange separate flight results into a possible multi-segment itinerary, then share the plan. A Journey is not a reservation: it does not hold seats or prices, protect separate-ticket connections, or prove that one program will price every segment together. AwardFares
- Basic is free. It previews up to 10 existing results for one program and includes five Seat Map lookups per month. It does not include live Search, Live or Flex Alerts, Journey Planner, or Flight Schedules.
- Gold currently costs $9.99 per month or $99 per year. It includes 100 Live Searches per day, 30 Live Alerts, 100 Flex Alerts, two programs per simultaneous search, Journey Planner, Flight Schedules, and 30 Seat Map lookups per month.
- Diamond currently costs $19.99 per month or $199 per year. It includes unlimited Live Searches and Flex Alerts subject to anti-abuse limits, 500 Live Alerts, five programs per simultaneous search, Journey Planner, Flight Schedules, and 200 Seat Map lookups per month.
- The AwardFares pricing page currently advertises a separate 24-hour trial for new customers. The trial is not the same as the permanent Basic plan.
Seats.aero
- Free currently includes Search, Routes, Hotels, basic filters, standard refresh and support, up to five active alerts, and a general Search window up to 30 days.
- Pro currently costs $9.99 per month or $99.99 per year. The help page adds unlimited alerts, a 60-plus-day window, advanced filters, faster or more frequent refreshes, upgrade alerts, priority support, and early access to new features. Pro also enables live Search for supported programs and sufficiently narrow queries, along with the Seat Map Viewer.
- Seats.aero’s current pages describe different horizons for different surfaces. Its help page says 60-plus days for Pro, while its terms say extended availability may be collected up to 365 days on supported routes. Those statements should not be turned into one universal Search or Explore limit.
- Program totals also conflict. The public status page lists 23 mileage programs, while other official copy uses 25 or more than 25. Check the live program and status pages for the source you need.
Which One Should You Use?
I put AwardFares first when I want one workflow for current multi-program Search, flexible dates and airports, alerts, Seat Maps, Flight Schedules, and a trip plan. Program and price comparison is especially useful when I hold transferable points and have more than one way to book the same flight.
Seats.aero remains useful for broad discovery from collected data, route-based browsing, specialist tools, and supported Pro live Search. Its Explore, collected Search, and live Search surfaces should be evaluated separately.
Using both can make sense. One product may support a program, route, or discovery view that the other does not, and availability can change after either tool finds it.
